Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
Has anyone bought ball joints, tie rod ends, etc from LMC? I usually try to buy local when I can but my list of parts for my front end rebuild will cost me 1000.00 from NAPA. I checked my list against LMC and it came up to 450.00 which more to my budget. I've been happy with most of the items I've purchased there, but when it comes to critical steering and suspension items, I want to get some opinions. Any major differences?
Thanks, Kirt |

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
What is the list of parts? It`s hard to believe it adds up to $1,000.I`ve never known LMC to be dramatically cheaper than Napa,or cheaper than anyone, for that matter.

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
I used advanced auto for my parts..I mean the uca shafter with bushings was only $18 and ball joints where $20ish so I find it hard to believe it could get to 1000...I'm going to pick up a tie rod end so I'll have to check the price on those

Did you factor in shipping costs?

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
ECE offers their entire front end rebuild kit for around $500-575 and they supply you with MOOG parts. Check out... www.earlyclassic.com
Or price the parts at O'Reilly as they sell MOOG as well.

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
I was shocked when NAPA gave me the quote.
NAPA LMC Tie Rod Ends ....... 57.00 20.00 Idler Arm ............ 54.00 25.00 Ball Joints ........... 85.00 25.00 Control Arm Shafts. 73.00 38.00 I still haven't seen a response to the quailty of LMC's components. Thanks, Kirt |

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
I try to use Moog stuff when ever I can like I said you may want to try some of the box stores for your parts...alot of them will price match
I just got off the phone with my local parts store the Moog tie rod ends are $20 the other (probably Jap) are $15 both have life time wanentees so I'm not sure where they are getting your prices from call LMC and ask what brand they are...

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
You just have to compare apples with apples. You can't just go on price.
Like stated above their are two grades of parts. Moog has two and so do others. All suspension parts have to pass federal standards. They all pass the minimum or can't be sold. The premium ones exceed them. We offer all the major steering parts and suspension parts for less than $500.00 using the Premium grade Moog or AC Delco |

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
Napa is really high on some stuff, and that list proves it. I did buy some suspension and steering parts from LMC once, Chinese stuff was what I got and I didn't like them at all. I go to O'Reilly's now. Get the Moog parts, cost a little more than LMC but it's worth it as well. O'Reilly's will also be much cheaper than Napa, that's been my experience anyway.

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
i did quick search on napa site ball joints for a 71C10 are in the $20-$25each range but they do offer ball joints with upper and lower control arms attached listed in the $80each range// thats why it's alot better to go in and talk to a knowledgable parts person face to face rather than the sit at home method where they'll not spend much effort on
took me less than 5min to find this info

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
Thanks for input regarding LMC quailty.
Just an FYI, I did go in to my local NAPA shop. I've been wanting to get a quote for awhile from them but I could see that they were all busy. This time the store was dead so I asked if he could quote me. The prices he quoted were 25 to 30% lower than list. I'm sure that they had some wiggle room still. |

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
If it were me I would go to O'Reilly's web-site and check out their prices.
I use to work there and they carry MOOG, which I recommend. Some of the parts they will have on hand and some they will have to order. Napa does have good parts, but I have found that they are a lot more expensive. If I am going to buy parts I usually go local so I can see the parts before I buy them and have some one local to go back to if I have a problem. It is true now days that most box store parts places are hiring inexperieced people, but I have found if you talk to the commercial guy or assistant manager at the box stores they will be able to help you. If I can not get local I like to go with a site vendors because they know these old trucks and are real helpful. Danny

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
Someone must have looked up parts for the wrong year for you or something. As far as LMC, I wouldn't think by the time you got those parts to your door it would be any cheaper than going to your local parts store.

Re: Suspension Parts ... LMC vs NAPA
That's just what happened to me. The thing I liked was that at NAPA you can specify Moog right there and know what you're getting. At LMC you don't. Yes, the total price was just a little higher at NAPA compared to LMC even with the shipping but I wanted the peace of mind. Also I bought a manual steering box from NAPA because I didn't want all the hassle and expense of shipping the core back to LMC.

I got all my front end stuff at the Truck and Car Shop in Orange, CA during their annual 10% off everything sale and it was dirt cheap. Parts look fine to me.
