What kind of Oil for Air tools?

Just got my air tools. Instructions don't mention what kind of oil to use. Does it have to be air tool oil or would 10w30 synthetic motor oil work?
Edit: Never mind, reread the instructions. Off to get some air tool oil. Mods feel free to delete this post.

Re: What kind of Oil for Air tools?

Since its open for discussion. Yes use tool oil. Be careful not to use it too much or too often. Too much oil can rot the seals & O-rings.

Re: What kind of Oil for Air tools?

i use the inlines for a couple of my tools. they work good but add additional bulk and cause clearance problems at times from the additional length involved most tools i just squirt a bit in b4 using

Re: What kind of Oil for Air tools?

A inline oiler always scared me, I would be afraid I'd forget and use a spray gun with it.

2-3 drops a day will make them last a long time, also dont exceed the 90PSI rating most tools have, this wears them out quickly too.

Also be careful oiling your DA or Mudhog or airboard,or any other tool your using to do bodywork the oil blows out the exhaust in tiny droplets and gets all over your work and if you dont get it removed complely hello Mr. Fisheye!

Put a drop in them and rev it for a few seconds then start your work is how I was taught, alot of bodymen dont use oil in them at all but it'll cut the life of the tool drastically.

Re: What kind of Oil for Air tools?

Here's a late addition: Some of my air-tools I've had since '71, I got my impact gun in '76 its one of the first Japanese made CPs , and all I ever done was make sure there was some kind of oil squirted in before I used them. 3-N-1 oil, WD-40, 5-30 synthetic, Royal Purple Maxfilm, Marvel oil, (one of my all time favorite oils). Yeah, I know I'm probably wrong, but they still work, so I guess I'm not too far off. I think the key is to keep them oiled with any light vis oil, and not run 'em dry... That's my crummy tech tip for the day.

Re: What kind of Oil for Air tools?

Black Moly 5 is lubricating grease and WD-40. Just a dab of grease and a good blast of WD: run the device for a full minute - good for a week's worth of grinding.
