Exclamation Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

In my girlfriends ford (yes a ford ugh) contour the heater has quit blowing or even running completely. I have checked the fuses and they are all ok. I hit the dash one time and it started to spin again then it stopped. Does that mean the heater fan motor is bad or is the wiring just possibly loose. I have been told to run a direct ground to it and see if it works. If it does, does that mean the switch is bad in the dash or does that mean the motor is shot??and or something else

9 times out of 10 the motor is going bad take it out and cheack the bearing in it put some wd-40 on the shaft that might help for a while until you can replace the fan motor

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

check the blower motor resistor. its behind the glove box. the motor plugs into it. should have two screws that hold it in. that what goes bad on the fords. a good parts store should have it.

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

if the resister was bad i dont think it would work at all I am pretty sure the brushes in the motor are worn out. the brush will move up and down when you hit a bump and the motor will start and stop working at diffrent times

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

its not the resistor usually when they go you get high and nothing else on the fan im betting its the motor or the wiring to it

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

i believe ford had problems with the fan motor caughing fire due to bad wiring and dry leaves in the cowl area
run tsb at the ford dealer see what they come up with

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

the blowing @ 60 is not the fan, that's the fresh air ducting... ram air on the heater if you will. If you were to put it on recirculate (like max A/C) you'll get no aire flow at all.
Pull the dash trim, then the heater control panel, and look at the wires on the back of the switch. They are known for burning the connections there.

Re: Hey I need some help and u guys are good with that.?

Glad you got it figured out.
I had to throw the switch thing out there, it's an easy one to look at and see damage with your eyes... and common too.
