burn baby burn! A little help?

I was driving on the freeeway, bumper to bumper traffic in rush hour yesterday, when I hear a snap crackle pop, and then see a ton of smoke coming out from under my dash. By the time I pulled over I couldnt see out the truck, couldnt breath, and there was a sheet a flame under my dash. Hahaha ooops!
I reacted quickly, a little too quickly. I was worrying only about getting the fire out, and before I was at a complete stop I threw the tranny into park. I could hear it go "click click click click" Did I break somthing??? I really hope I didnt hurt my new 2004R.

Fire was put out with only minor damage, just need to re-wire a few things and Im good. Needless to say everything is getting much bigger wires and more fuses

Just the tranny trying to engage on the parking pawl--you likely didn't do any damage this time. I knew a guy in high school that thought it was cool to bring his truck to a stop by using 'park'--the TH350 lasted about a month before it finally stopped 'parking'

I did the same thing to our '99 Tahoe - The brakes failed and we were going to head right into an intersection - Luckly, I was only going 15 mph at the time! I heard several crunches before coming to a stop. I did that 2 years ago and no lasting reprocusions!

bout a year and half ago i knocked the shifter into reverse on accident and i broke the u-joints and dropped the drive shaft. 2 months after having the driveshaft and u joints replaced the tranny died and would only work in 1st and reverse.
