Re: engine setup opinions
Suggest you include specifics on the cam....such as duration, lift, LSA or just post the cam number.
Keep safe during your deployment... |

Re: engine setup opinions
Recommend that you stick with the Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers. I used some aluminum rollers that was supposed to be good once that crapped out in 15,000 miles. The Magnums are still doing such a good job in my stroker engine, so I did the same brand in my TPI engine for my DD.
Do you know what your compression ratio is going to be? With the aluminum heads it can be higher, but be careful to not push to high, or you will have to run higher octane fuels---more cost at the pump daily. When you say an Edelbrock 650 carb---do you mean a Thunder AVS carb or is it a QJ replacement carb? Torker 2 intake---are you going to run this truck on the streets or do you plan on driving where the RPMs are going to be higher, all of the time? The Torker manifolds are good at higher revs, but on the street, they faulter in traffic and low RPMs. That is why the Performer RPM manifolds were created. I see you are going to run a TH400 with a 3.73 gear set, what diameter of tires are you running in the rear? This combo will keep your revs pretty high at highway speeds. You should try to keep the RPMs at or around 2500 to 2700 as best as you can. I am running a 700R4 tranny behind a 385 stroker engine, with a 3.73 gear set and 27" tires on the rear. I also have a 2400 stall convertor, due to the Comp Cam profile that I choose. I run at 2500 RPMs at 70 MPH and that is good for 14.5 MPG repeatedly.

Re: engine setup opinions
thanks for the advice and yea I plan on it being a street pounder. and the comp ratio is going to be 9.5:1 or 10:1 cant recall what dad said but i know i told him to keep it on pump gas even if it premium. So are you saying that torker 2 will not be what I am looking for to dd my truck? Also I went with the Rhodes hyd lifters because alot of people have told me that they are better at keeping some type of vacum with the lopier cams. Not sure what the tire size will come to but rims will be 15x8 rallies with 255/60 front and 275/60 rear.
And I will let you know how the heads work and the price is the reason I went with them cause I am tryn to stay in a 2k range for the motor build. The block is going into the machinist next week so should be able to get some progress pics soon.
