floor mat vs. carpet?

I was toying with the idea of going with a floor mat instead of carpet in my truck. Just kind of seems like a better idea. How are the repro floor mats that are out there?

Or should I go with the carpet instead? I do like the loop carpeting....

I just bought and installed the replacement rubber mat (38-2842) from LMC and it fit great. My truck (which my dad bought new in 1969) came with a rubber mat and I was debating whether to put in carpet instead of the rubber mat but I use the truck as a truck and figured it would kill carpet.

Thanks. I think I'm going to go with the mat, as I too, plan on using my truck as a truck. Glad to hear it fits well and looks good.

The last two 4x4's I built I used the floor mats in. I thought they fit pretty well. To me a 4x4 should have the rubber mat instead of carpet. (just a personal thing) The black carpet in my White 67 is fading and fuzzing pretty bad but to be fair it is going on six years old.

It all depends on how you want to use your truck. I really don't use my truck for heavy, dirty jobs any more so I went with carpet. It's warmer, quieter and it looks better. I do use heavy rubber mats though.

I prefer the rubber mat and have always ordered my trucks that way even when new.

I have a rubber mat from Brothers in mine. Fit was good. Only had to cut the outside dimensions to an exact fit. I did use a couple stainless screws with finish washers to attach the mat to the firewall. I didn't want it to move around once I had her in place.

I enjoy not worrying about snow/mud on my boots when I get in. Last time I cleaned her out I took a towel with some 409 and wiped it down. Looked like new. Try that with carpet.

If you go with the rubber, I recommend buying some additional sound proofing. I added the sound proofing package from brothers before installing the mat. When combined with new door and window rubber, the inside of my cab is dead quiet running down the road. That is a real bonus given that I don't have a radio.

My dad is running a repro rubber mat in his 71 GMC as well. Fit great. I forget where he bought it, though...

I have the original rubber in the longhorn.
My other two pickups were both had carpet, and I liked it. However, since they were all daily drivers, I soon discovered it was a bit of a pain to keep the carpet clean. This is why the longhorn still has the rubber.
My burb had the mat when I got it. Since it was never destined to be a true daily driver, I replaced it all with carpet and with that much floor to cover, it looks a million times better.
