Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
Sick trucks can't wait to see more pictures of the back half. I'm almost done with a backhalf setup. Would be sick to see others.

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
all right...these are cell phone shots so they suk but somethin is better than nothing...
Here is once it was in the garage. holes in the firewall, laid out onda arms but the crossmember was raised an inch and a half or soo. You can clearly see the steering issues and what not... Here is ride hieght after the I put in the motor mounts, raised and clearanced the steering, then pie cut the top of the crossmember. I also built bag cups for it so It will have no rubbing and lottsa lift with low pressure.... close up of the motor mounts... Rob made me drill the holes... and make em unboltable from the mount... the motor mounts in action.... I moved the motor slightly forward so I could clear the tunnel and pull a distributor... or easily remove an hei. I also lowered the motor as much as I could. Cleanded up the the new used differntal today. Hopefully will be cutting steel in the am .... Thanks to Todd at lowboymotorsports for his bagging and general c10 knowledge, Robb for all his help and the truck and Dino for throwin me the seat! My goal is to have this drivable by the end of this month...thank god I got laid off.....

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
Definately a sweet ride thus far... please tell me you are going to cut the hood to let the dual fours stick through...
I am sooooo tired of cowl hoods. |

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
wow, I really like the way you did you sterring and cross member chop. I did mine a lot different and it took me weeks to figure out a steering shaft set up. Still not reall happy with mine. I swapped in 80's power steering too.
Used the 80's cross shaft to retain the factory tie rods. Well now it does not steer well in shard turns. Like its dragging one of the tires. Also major tire wear. Your set up, using the stock stuff was a better idea. If I ever get my burb. I will be using yours as a model. So post and problems and fixes if you hit anything major. Also, the other truck is crazy sick too.

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
I more of a traditional guy with my old stuff. So no cowl hoods, billet, or big wheels. Will go with cragar or supremes with pins. I am still debating if I wanna keep the duals on there. I love the way the look, but I would rather keep them under the hood as I am not building a race truck. And if they are under the hood whats the point of having em? Who knows....Going for a small block with a 700r4. Just a low cruizer. I have some pretty cool paint ideas bubllin up...that may be to crazy...so I will let my friends guide me. it will sport a gmc grill I picked up at good guys. And yes a simple yet stout four link out back.
All the front suspension advice came from my friend Todd at lowboy motorsports. He did the dually, my sons truck, and my econoline. Going to the shop in an hour, and taking my camera for some good pics. with Any luck we will have it back halved by sunday...

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
I got the bed that was on it in Robs backyard. It needs work but itll do im sure...And yes those doors did come from you. The doors on this truck were shaved, and I like nobs and bumpers... so we swaped.
Here is a pic of the basic back half....tomorrow I cutt the frame off...I am giddy

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
Frame is welded on and stronger than a garlic milk shake! Rob (Hickup) came over and checked out the scene along with showing me how to tell what gear ratio my new diff is...
Later in the day I cutt the bottoms off the old frame and Todd welded it up so it has a nice gradual transition from old to new.... Need a engine, found a 700r4.

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
Heres some updates. Sits on the control arms...frame is about 1/4inch off the ground. Body is about 1/2 inch. Still a bunch to do.
I wanted it as simple as possible. Cutt the inner fenders up for a tubbing Starting putting the sheet metal back on for mock up Ride hieght Trev layn it out for me.

Re: My 64 goes to Lowboy for a back half
Alot has happend since this last post... the duece is gone after 4 years and a ton of money dropped on it. I got a 65 riviera, and a 54 chopped cheby to replace it.
Got a different column thanks to Rob and Jeff on here. Got the brakes to work. Sealed and panted the inner fenders and put it back together. Today is the day! I am going to start my wiring. With any luck I will be rollin hard by tomorrow! I'm so geeked I could peee... Oh and got my supremes...here is a crappy shot. heres a pic of the 54 and da buford
