Re: i need help with tire size with a 4/6 drop

maybe a 245/40 up front and a 255/40 in the rear.
Some people run a 275/45 on 20x8's,...because they are cheap.
But they are a pretty tall tire.

Re: i need help with tire size with a 4/6 drop

On a lowered truck to this extent do you use the same back spacing as the original 15 inch rims or do you have to go with a positive back spacing to bring the rims in to prevent tire rub on the fenders. I've build a Ford f100 on a 72 C10 frame and have issues and need to know what size rim I can use on front. I have no idea of how to go about measuring for this. At the moment my tires are 1/2" from rubbing my fenders and no way of turning them and don't want to put it back up in the air.

Re: i need help with tire size with a 4/6 drop

i believe with a 20x8 you want 4.5" of backspacing

If I were to go with a 6" back spacing would that give me any issues turning and could I drop down to an 18" rim?

Well thanks anyways, hope that someone here can help. Would you know how wide of a rim can be used on the front without steering problem like rubbing against tierod ends. I'm just trying to get a feel of what might fit my application. Where I live there is no one I can turn to for answers and with all the lowered rides on this site I might get educated. Hopefully my putting a ford on the chevy frame won't be to much of a turn off for everyone as I'm using what I had on hand

Hello big_al_71, do you think if those 18's on front had a 6" back spacing would they still turn and not rub the tie rod and actually fit past the steering knuckle. 18's is what I would like to run and hoping I won't have to go any bigger.

A 20x8 with 5" BS will work.
A 20x8.5 with 5.5" BS will work.
A 20x9 with 6" BS would be fine.

I think a 20x8 with 6" BS will be tucked in too much.

What width wheel are you looking at that has a 6" BS?

Also,... what year truck are you putting these on and what do you have for suspension mods?

Okay, don't laugh, I built a 56 F100 panel truck on a 1972 C10 frame which is why I have to bring the wheels in. I haven't really picked out a wheel yet as I'm not sure what size will fit. I'm hoping to run 18's and need to know what will clear as far as the tie rods are concerned. It seems that the bigger the diameter the wider the rim. I'm not wanting to go too wide.
