400 flywheel/350 with balance plate?

Anybody use an adaptor plate with a 350 flywheel when installing a 400? I am putting a 400 in place of my 350 with a sm465 and wondering if I need a new flywheel or if anybody has ever tried the adaptor plate? I figured someone had to have tried it before with some knowledge on the subject. Thanks

Re: 400 flywheel/350 with balance plate?

I have used an adapter plate. It was on a 78 1/2 ton 4X4. Original 350 4 speed. Change to 400. Adapter plate worked like a charm. Seems like I purchased it from NAPA.

I am gonna use the balance plate . seem's like a better idea, if ya ever eat a fly wheel . every body stock's a 350 fly wheel !

Looks like the way to go for me too. Jegs has a new flywheel for 75 which is a good deal but im on a budget and if it works to go the balance plate route then I am in there thanks for the replies.
