wing window question/
Is it possible to take the wing window frame apart from the piece that has the window channel on it? I hope I'm asking this right. What I need to do is replace the part that has the pivot and spring (mine broke loose). The rest of my window is in great shape with no rust or pits in the chrome, so I'd like to just replace the broken part. Also, I have access to the parts here locally but the rubber on my present upright section is in better shape than any of the one I can get from the yard, so I'd like to use mine if possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Cnut

I'm pretty sure the piece that you're talking about is riveted on. Scratch that, I'm 100% sure. I remember drilling out the rivets to put the rubber in. I think I just used regular pop rivets from the window channel side to put it back together. Keep in mind that it's a real PITA to change the rubber. I had to MAKE mine fit by cutting the rubber where it makes the 45* bend. Good luck!

They need to be removed from the door frame for disassembly. There is a great write-up in the FAQ section describing how to do it.

Thanks, I think I'm going to get one and make the attempt. I can probably figure it out by the time I get the donor out ogf the old door. How many mounting points are there to hold this in? And are they screws, nuts or bolts? Thanks again, Cnut

There's 3 screws on the edge of the door facing the windshield and 2 at the bottom once you remove the door panel. Then there's that other screw under the window it it's a 1972 model.

If you still have weather strip at the door top edge where the glass comes out (I know there's a name, but it escapes me, the part you rest your arm on when the window is down...), take care, or you'll screw it up and mash the end beyond repair like I did the other day Trip |

If you don't have to worry about destroying the window, and you don't since yours it broken, try it. You have nothing to lose except for the cost of the seals. I did rebuild two sets. The real stinker of the whole build is the pivit rivet. I never could get any of mine seated exactly like the manufactuer. They never sealed correctly and leaked air(probably just me). Just take you time, do a little research, and use good materials. Good luck, it can be done.

The only qucik way to get the pivot revit to seat correctly is to use this tool or make your own. The liitle punch tool works like crud. You can adapt it ti work if placed in a frame like shown. You can't hold it steady enough and they get off centered. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. A tool like this sets them correct.

Yes, they all turned out well. Give it a try. Using a pop rivet gun is a lot easier! Mbgmike's tool above was going to be my other suggestion, but as he pointed out they are expensive.
