Coil Spring Angle Question.

Hey all,

This might be a bit off topic, but it's still a truck arm suspension, so we'll go with it. I'm basically putting the backhalf of a '67 C10 under my '67 Chevy II. I have the arms and front crossmember installed, and to keep the springs between the frame rails and to let the trailing arms be close to the stock width on the rear end, I fabricated inboard spring mounts.



My issue is, is that with the BFH method of making things fit along the way, for some reason my springs aren't sitting at the same angle to contact the top crossmember. It may be a bit fo a tweak on the inboard mounts, or it might be the trailing arm itself being a bit deformed from squeezing it together and welding them up so they're solid. I'm not quite sure at this point.

I can bolt them in just fine, and it cycles through decently. I'm just worried that if the springs are a bit off, it'll want to kick the rearend out to out-of-center (which is what a panhard is for, though). Another concern is if the springs aren't going up and down the same, the ride quality may suffer, etc.

Any ideas here guys? Or am I just throwin' smoke?

Don't worry brother. Springs bend, thats what they do. You will not have any problems due to one spring bending different than the other. If you compress a spring to far it may become a little shorter, but it will still work fine. The way to damadge the spring is to nick our gouge the spring wire. That will cause a stress concentration that may cause the spring to break.
