Engine Wiring Questions - MSD, 2 Pole Starter, etc
All,
I am now onto the wiring of my new 383 and have a few questions coming from the stock 307 with regards to wiring. Below are the wires used on the previous engine. Blue - oil sensor, now mechanical gauge - cut/cap/not used Green - 1/2" npt temp sensor, now in manifold, won't fit in block(elec fan sensor in block 3/8" hole) Purple - starter lead, is this all that is needed to the new starter aside from the red battery lead? White - Resistor wire? Branched by p/o to 2 yellows, one for coil and one for R pole on starter, cut/cap/not used anymore correct? Red - Ran to this odd thing on the old 2 barrel, What is this and is it a switched 12v I could use for my MSD coil? Does this Pro-Billet MSD need the resistor wire(8volts?) used at all? It states 12v switched from fuse panel, but I'm just a little lost still and don't want to screw anything up. I think the white/yellows are not used now and I just run a switched 12v to the + side of the coil correct?...Seems too basic and easy? Thank you all for your help!! |

Re: Engine Wiring Questions - MSD, 2 Pole Starter, etc
If you are running 12 V off the switched post on the fuse panel you don't need a resistor. That is the same way most of us who have swapped in an HEI are running them.
on mine I just folded the stock wires over and taped them up and then taped them into the harness to clean things up a bit. That leaves them there in case for some odd reason I want to swap back to the old distributor. |
