headers?
im looking for some block hugger headers for my 283 any suggestions? and whats the difference between stainless steel, ceramic coated and chrome? i think chrome gets a blue haze on them and i want something that keeps its shine and doesn't flake off, rust, or turn blue.

Stainless Steel will turn Yellow, coated Headers do something but can't remember, and chrome will blue up. I think the Coated Headers are more durable. Anybody have any pictures of coated headers with some miles on them?

Somewhat....they vary some in the cost. It depends on who does the coating and some are more durable than others. Basically you get what you pay for. You can buy headers already coated from manufacturers like Hedman and Hooker.

here's a pic of my Sanderson headers on my street rod. These are ceramic coated and they have been VERY hot due to to lean fuel mix. I prefer ceramic above everything else for a driver.

I've had ceramic coated headers on my '62 for a few years now. They still look okay. The coating helps with heat disapation too... so I've heard.

If you want a good shine that will last, have a set Jet Hot coated......I've tried ceramic coating, there is no comparison what so ever.

On my Model A & Model T I modified plain steel headers and then had them Jet-Hot Coated. Both have held up really well.
Interestingly this ceramic type of coating was originally developed for jet engines and then made it's way into other industries & uses. You can get them coated inside and out for maximum heat reduction and longevity. |
