Braided Fuel Line Install - Flush the line!
A week ago I fired up my 383 crate motor for the first time. It started easily and sounded strong. I've since started a few times just to hear it run. Today I had trouble starting it and it died after 15 seconds. It smelled of fuel and appeared to be flooded. I pulled a plug and found it was drenched in fuel and badly fouled. All the plugs were the same way. For some reason my Edelbrock 750 was dumping too much fuel.
Following instructions on their website, I pulled the top of the carb to check the floats and needle valves. I found a lot black sediment in the bottom of the bowls. It was also on the needles valves which prevented them from seating. That caused the carb to flood. I'm sure the black sediment got into line when I used a cutting wheel to cut it to length. I didn't think to flush the lines before installing the fittings. The left over debris eventually made its way to the carb. Lesson learned. Make sure to flush those lines!

The same thing could be said for the cheapo Chrome plated Carb feed lines (Holley, anyways). I've pulled chrome flakes out of a Carb that was doing the same thing; flooding.

I had the same problem, turned out to be the sock on the end of the fuel pick up was disinagrated and all the little peices were getting pulled into the fuel line even making it past the filter and into the carb causing the same issues. If you havent already, you might want to pull your sening unit and check it out

another thing you might try is a quality fuel filter

Re: Braided Fuel Line Install - Flush the line!
x2 on this. I learned long ago to ALWAYS run a quality paper filter for any fuel application. I prefer to run the milky colored see thru ones but in a high pressure system you have to run the can style that bolts into the line.
And NEVER NEVER NEVER run one of those clear glass ones. I have seen too many people loose a perfectly nice ride to them breaking and catching on fire. Besides they are junk when it comes to keeping the above mentions things out of the carb.

Re: Braided Fuel Line Install - Flush the line!
I agree 100%.
My motor was purchased in a crate. All the fuel lines came pre-assembled with an Edelbrock inline filter. The filter looks slick but I found it isn't really a filter. It's more like a screen meant to block large debris. Now I know better.
