How to tell an NOS vs reman tail gate?
I bought a decent tailgate yesterday for $100 for my 69 fleetside. It was straight and only had a few dents with no rust. They guy said it was an original because it had the CHEVROLET stamped in it. I knew you could buy those from LMC or Brothers but didnt care to tell him that. The question is how can you tell if a tailgate is an original or just a clean remanufactured one? I have a reman now that is bowed to crap. Thanks.

Re: How to tell an NOS vs reman tail gate?
I have two reman tail gates. One has CHEVROLET on it and the other is smooth. The smooth one is very weak and flimsy. It will dent easy. The CHEVROLET one is very sturdy. It weighs and feels like an original. You can feel the difference if you squeeze the top of the tailgate with your hand. The non lettered one gives and the better quality lettered one does not.

The NOS and takeoff gates aren't as smooth on the edges and in the middle of the recess as the reproductions are.

You can pick up a reman with one hand very easy, you need two hands to carry an OE gate.

Re: How to tell an NOS vs reman tail gate?
I'll have to put a disclaimer with that. Some remans without the lettering are light because of thin gauge metal, but the Triplus reproduction with the chevrolet stamped in it weighed exactly the same as my 1969 NOS gate.

Re: How to tell an NOS vs reman tail gate?
Well I definetly need two hands to carry it. I have not started any work on it yet but it looks like the seems on the side is pulling away a little on top. Can i just clamp this back together and weld it? I dont see why not but maybe someone else has seen this before.
