Attempted theft
Happened on campus here during daylight just before it got dark yesterday. It was parked on the side of a well traveled street.
However the alarm did do it's job. According to a witness, once the scum smashed the glass and when the alarm came on, they ran away. Nothing was missing out of the truck. The LED for the alarm is on the drivers side, so I'm guessing they didn't see nor expect it. Just like all the cars in Gone in 60 Seconds had names, last night me and my friend decided that my truck should now have a name. My friend came up with Jennifer, which sounded good to me so it's set. I'm just posting this as a reminder to protect your investment. Hopefully I can find some used glass soon and get this fixed without emptying my pockets too much.

Re: Attempted theft
Wow, in daylight. You should be able to find a replacement window. They'll be back with wire cutters next time. Tuck your battery cables up good.
I have my LED light in the instrument bezel. It is visible from both sides. |

Re: Attempted theft
They were 100% rookies. theres no reason whatsover to smash a window to take or get into these trucks. Broken windows attract attention to anyone driving. At least they took off and didnt destroy anything else.

Re: Attempted theft
I used to be able to get in my '82 with anything from the key, pocket knife, penny, dime, drivers license, etc. the lock didn't take much to turn.
and my key would unlock my uncle's '86 but would'nt start it.

Re: Attempted theft
I'm going to call some junkyards this week to try and get used glass. Does the same window fit all years through 73-87(91) ? I ask because I know 76 and lower had different doors and internals but I wasn't sure about the glass and the metal track the rollers ride in.
Are the vent windows the same style/design all through the years as well ? I'm just looking to replace the glass and the small metal pivot frame it sits in because I've painted and installed a new gasket in the outer frame I have.

Re: Attempted theft
junkyard glass runs 20 bucks @ a junkyard....if your lower window mount (u will c it) is too rusty, you will not be able to remove it cleanly from whats left of the glass...u will need to buy a new one... lmc...20.00 i believe. so beat the (*^( out of em for 50bucks...
