You've just gone down to the local Chevy dealer and bought youself a brand new pickup. Not just any pickup though, it's a 2wd, shortbox Cheyenne Super! It's black with a parchment interior and it's got everything you wanted except for the big block option. You opted for the 350/350 combo because you knew that you were heading for the local tire shop and the big block wouldn't leave room in your pocket for those cool wheels you HAD to have.

The questions. What wheels were the tire shops offering? What was the "gotta have it" peak of coolness in the summer of 1972?

I know a few of you guys were the cool cats then? Let's hear it! And pics as usual are appreciated!

Heck, the summer of '72 is kind of a blur to me. It was just after I returned to California after getting out of the military.

During that time I did not have two nickels to rub together so to speak.

I did like the looks of the slotted mags, though.

I agree, on the muscle cars of these areas, it was:
Cragers, Aluminum slots, E.T. Torque Thrust looking wheels, or Keystone Classics. Not a lot of designs out there back then. I do think Slots would look the best highly polished on your truck. Cragers wouldn't look bad though. The only thing with Cragers are that they pit up so bad. Trevor

LOL. Exactly what I was thinking except I believe that truck had red interior. That movie rocked. The only non era correct car issue I saw was a set of 3rd gen Z-28 wheels on a TA in the background of one scene.

I wish I could jackass around with my friends in vehicles like that. I'm currently fixing all of the "professional's" screw ups on my new motor. No freaking intake bolt sealant so there is oil all over the intake and the distributer came loose. I was chasing other stuff to find the problem cuz I figured the dude could tighten a distributor. It never ends

Some great answers here! " a blur" Ha ha! I was 7 years old that year so I was more interested in my schwinn stingray and what color of slick I could put on the back of it. Blue skidmarks were cool you know. Oh, and Evel Knievel toys!

The slotted mags were the in thing in sounds like. That's a good thing!

Newstalgia wheels have a great selection in 5x5's all the way up to 17's.

This question makes one wonder how many tons of wacky tobaccy our trucks have hauled over the years. Mind boggling isn't it?

Alathough I wasn't paying much attention then it seems to me that the white steel spokers were the thing to do up in ND at the time

iirc, Jackman was one of the first big names in spoke wheels... also seem to recall their spokes went all the way out to the rim, unlike most others.

I was 4 then but spent alot of time at the local drive in on Saturday nights. I've been hooked on tire smoke ever since LOL. Slots were the hot item and a set of Firestones. But yall have left out chrome reverse steelies. I can still picture a midnight blue 55 sedan with cut out quarters white smoking them through all 4 gears!

I took your advice fellas and Netflixed Dazed and Confused. Other than the cool rides that has to be one of the absolutely worst movies that I have ever seen.

Geat cars though and it got me away from my slotted mag fixation.
