Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
I'm looking at purchasing a set of bucket seats from a 1972 Blazer. The passenger side has the tracks/brackets. The drivers side does not.
I have a few questions. 1. Are the Blazer seats the same for a 1972 Truck? I want these to put in our 1972 truck. 2. Are the tracks/brackets the same so they will fit in the truck without modification? 3. Can I take the tracks off the bench seat and put them on the drivers side bucket to make it adjustable? I really want to find a set that fits in the truck without any mods to the truck in case I want to put the bench seat back. Any help is appreciated. Also, if you have a set of bucket seats for sale let me know. Thanks |

1-2. The seats themselves are the same, but the brackets are not the same between the two I am told.
3. No, unless you seriously modify them, the bench seat brackets do not work.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
Well, that's not what I was hoping to hear. I assume it would be pretty hard to find just tracks for bucket seats.
Anyone have any other ideas or a set of buckets for sale? |

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
You can find the correct bucket seat brackets, but it takes floor reinforcements under the floor to make a bucket seat cab. An original bucket seat cab floor is different than a bench seat cab floor. You would need to drill new holes and find the missing pieces for under the floor and weld them in. Don't mean to discourage you from it, but it is not a bolt in thing. Buddy buckets will bolt right in without modification though. I have never owned a set of 67-68 buddy buckets only the 69-72 bucket seats, but that is why a lot of people like them. Trevor

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
72 blazer driver side and truck bucket seat mounts are the same.Bench seat trucks require that you drill the holes in floor pan for correct seat placement.Buckets and bench do not mount in the same holes. There is a recent post with pics and all correct measurements.passenger side truck mounts are not the same as blazer but are availible after market reasonable.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
I've spoken to two different people selling these types of seats and they say they bolt right in. Why on earth are they telling me I don't have to drill holes if I indeed do.
Other than drilling the holes in the floor board, is there anything else I would need to modify? |

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
well the truck factory passenger mounts are fixed, just platforms//blazer mounts however the whole seat flips foward on hinges. with slight mods they can b used, i liked using them for easy access to behind the seat storage
as far as mounting the both seats require additional holes drilled.. NO you dont need the "factory channels" under the cab but it's a good idea to have additional bracing underneath, i used 3" washers from 3/16 steel to brace the underside of the cab to prevent fat knowitall guys with clipboards noticeing that you dont have "factory correct" cab mounts for your bucket seats slam the truck so they cant get thier fat butts under it

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
The seats look nice! However, I would like to find something stock so it looks like it came with the truck. I though 73+ did look very much like 72. Can anyone tell me if that is true?

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
The 73 up seat frame is the same and so is the lower seat bun.The skirt on the bottom of the seat is different and the upper bun is different except for a very few of the 73s.The 73 up truck mounts are totally different and the 73 up blazer driver side mount has the same bolt pattern but is about 11/2" taller and leans back slightly. That said it is not hard to weld a pie shaped piece to the lower skirt and make it the same as 72 style and you can add foam to the upper bun or just buy new 72 upper buns and replace. If you have 73 up blazer mount which is what most of that style bucket comes from the driver side mount is not hard to modify if you know how and the passenger side can be bought from any of several vendors repro. If you come across 73 up bucket cheap enough "$25 ea at any pick n pull" then it is cost effective to modify them.Other wise keep and eye on craigslist and the parts board for the correct 72 style seat with the correct mounts. There really isn't any cheap way to get real 69/72 buckets unless you get lucky on perfect cores and can cover them yourself and at that you will have $650 to $700 in them.If you get them any cheaper than that you will have to steal them.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
67/72junkie, what I found was a set of blazer seats. The passenger seat is supposedly a 72 blazer. The drivers seat has no brackets and the year is unknown although it looks like it is similar, if not the same, as the 72.
I was hoping to modify the bench seat tracks and put them on the drivers side. I'm getting mixed answers on the possibility of that. This gentleman wants $200 for the set with the console. Not sure if that is good or now considering the potential modifications I may have to make on the drivers side. Any thoughts? |

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
I will post you some pics tonight of the 72 and 73 seats and the differances.the blazer and truck mounts also.If the passenger seat is real 72 in good shape and the mount is correct ,local with no shipping then I would say $200 is a reasonable deal especially if the 73 is one of the early ones with correct upper bun.You can use the blazer passenger mount in your truck or sale/trade it on the board to get the correct truck mount. there is a post made by special k about 11/2 weeks ago where I posted pics and all the info you need.see if you can look it up.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
There are several ways to mount your seats without drilling into the floor. My buckets were too low and needed to be raised up about three inches which gave me an idea. I built a frame that supported both seats and a center console that bolted into the factory bench seat holes. It's a fiddly job making the patterns out of poster board but if you can weld, the rest is easy. No new holes in the floor and no worries about the seats pulling loose. Just be sure to change over the seatbelts...the belts for the bench seat will be too long.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
Well, the blazer buckets fell through, however, I found a set locally from a 1968. I haven't seen them yet but am told they are a little different than a 1972 set. Does anyone know the differences?

Those are Randy's (Teeitup) buckets and they are 69-70 buckets. Trevor

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
the only buckets for '67 and '68 were buddy buckets..... Post some pics of what your looking at much easier for us to decipher.

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
I would like to know how to unhook the springs. I got some bucket seats from a 75 blazer. The lower seat bun are torn. I could use the lower seat bun from a high back bucket seat

Re: Bucket Seat Help Needed (NOT BUDDY SEATS)
Kinda digging this one up from the dead I suppose, but I would love to see how to unhook the springs and remove the foam from a set of seats. Hope no one minds.
