Spare tire ?
Anyone have any better set-ups for mounting the spare tire? I see the factory one as being a potential PIA once my truck is lowered. I could just see a flat tire in the back and no way to get the spare out. I was thinking maybe one out of a toyota or as old as I am maybe just a AAA account?

Re: Spare tire ?
If you're getting long in the tooth, maybe an AAA account would be best. other than that you could use or make a mount like in the 60-66 trucks that hold the spare vertical in front of the wheel tub inside the bed.
Edit: Here's a wite up from Tx Firefighter, took a minute to find it: http://kneeknockertruck.blogspot.com/

Re: Spare tire ?
Mine's up in the bed.
If you don't feel like making a rack like Firefighter did (great job, by the way) you could probably find one of these in the junkyard or at a dealer. K

Re: Spare tire ?
I saw someone used a crank style, like you see on modern trucks. I am thinking about that, what do you guys think. not sure if I want the tire in the bed. I have a 3-4 lower kit on my '79 stepside

Re: Spare tire ?
The 3" exhaust pipes done away with the stock spare placement on my 97, I mounted it flat in the front right corner of the bed with a 1/2" threaded rod welded to a square 3/16" thick plate bolted to the bed floor. I'll be doing the same with project 74, Since both these trucks are show only not dd's I have no problem with the spare placement since all either will ever haul is chairs/canopy and a cooler and the tonneau covers it all.....

Re: Spare tire ?
Here's mine. The bracket can be made out of some C channel and threaded rod. If you would like more pics of it, let me know.
