Convert steel bed to wood?
Can you convert a steel SWB Fleet bed to wooden?
What needs to be changed? What do I have to buy (other than the wood?)

Re: Convert steel bed to wood?
You need a new front panel, or an adapter (Mar-K has them). You also need the cross sills and a new rear cross sill... Wood, metal strips and a bolt kit for the strips too. Check Mar-K's website for the best prices and discounts for board members...
You could also take this stuff from a wood bed but more than likely it will be rotted.

Re: Convert steel bed to wood?
This is what I did, bought a wood floor bed and disassembled it. Re-using everything except the rotted out wood.

Re: Convert steel bed to wood?
I am uncertain as to what your true objective might be. If you just desire the "Look" of a wood bed, you can buy a wooden and stainless "overlay" bed that sits atop the steel one. Looks just like a gennie, if the pictures tell the truth. I can't remember the name or supplier, but the install was featured in one of the classic truck mags within the past year. If that's OK with you, it might be cheaper than converting. YMMV!

Re: Convert steel bed to wood?
i just watched a gears show within the last few weeks where he used the overlay bed that turned out great. and when you want to haul something it can be removed in seconds. you might check out gears or stacydavid.com ?
