Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

I have a set of sliding windows out of a blazer top if you want a measurement.

Thought it might help if your thinking of making them fit?!

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

If the LxW don't work, you'll be screwed on the depth of them. They are wide with a channel on the Blazer vs. just a pihch weld and gasket on the burb.

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

I'll try and get the measurements and pics this weekend. I have the top too with the windows out, so I'll get pics of it all and measure the opening and the window.

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

i got one little snafu to throw in ,,,,even if the measurements are close the bottom rear corner of the burban window comes to a point......the blazer windows have a radius in the lower rear corner....so even if they are close in measurements you will have to do some bodywork to get the k5 window to fit...... the sliding winbdow is thicker and will stick out farther on the side of the suburban......IMHO...i would retro fit the power pop-out rear vent windows found on some late model mini vans.....you can find a suitable window rubber from steele rubber or sof-seal.....grab some pop out window hinges and mock up the power motor....hardest part will be getting glass drilled since it is tempered glass... i know you can have it cut and drilled on a custom basis.....but that would be more than the cost of taking the wife out to eat then the mall shopping....... they make plexiglass every day.....and that is another tech lesson all-together

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

At one time (maybe still) there were aftermarket sliders available. I also heard the quality was not the greatest.

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

page 88 of the LMC Suburban catalog. I will admit, they're quite pricey...

It would be cooler to get a set from a K5 to work, but these work out of the box.

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

They sell a similar set for the K5's here:

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/bzc/full.aspx?Page=80

Different part number and they do look pretty different. Those direct fit ones will probably be cheaper than the body work to make a set from a K5 fit though??

As far as removing them, just pop the chrome or black trim out of the gasket and then pop the window out of the gasket too. Its really easy. Just a little harder if the gasket dosent have trim.

justpball,

I had a short weekend (only one day off) and completely forgot to get these measurements. I'll get them tomorrow when I get up.

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

Sorry for the delay, it has been a hetic week here. Anyways here are the measurements.

The top:

Length is 52" at the top, 53 3/8" in the middle and 53 1/8" at the bottom. Height is: 17 1/8" front and middle, 16 7/8" at the rear. The flange thickness is .140"

The window:

Length is: 53" top, 54" middle and 54 5/8" bottom. Height is: 17 5/8" front, 17 3/4" middle and 17 1/4" rear. Flange thickness is .160"

To compare the solid back window I took out of my '78 is .130" thick. I could not get the slider in with the seal it came with that has the trim around it. The window and seal went in fine, but the locking trim would not. Wound up putting it in with the regular seal from my solid window and it worked fine. It was a pain getting it in, but no more so than the locking trim. I dont think the .030" makes that big a difference.

Let me know if you need pictures of anything, or if your ever up this way you can take the extra top back with you!

Re: blazer slide windows and burb non slide

No problem. I know the measurements sound kinda weird and due to the angles on the windows it was kinda hard to get them by myself. Should get you in the ball park though. If your serious about doing it I could probably make some templates of the opening in the top and mail them to you.
