The TH-400 in my diesel burb won't shift in to reverse. Is there anything I can check or is it time for an overhaul? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First thing I check is the trans dipstick. Low fluid or brown and burnt smell are dead give aways.

Re: TH-400, No reverse, what to check???

bad thing is 1sr and reverse are the same clutches inside, so most likely if you dont fix it first will be the next gear to go out. has happened to me before but my trans was too far gone and before i could really even try to figure out if it was something simple, 1st went out as well. my dad says its common. when we rebuilt it, clearly the clutches for 1sr gear wear shot. neve had a prob after that.
