`85 Jimmy Sierra P/W & Manul Locks

It looks like I`ll be in the saddle of another square body.I found a deal on an`85 6.2 Sierra Jimmy. It`s pretty unique.Has anyone seen power windows w/o the door locks? The older farmer got it from a farm tractor/GMC dealer in the area that recently stopped dealing in new trucks, tractors,& equipment. It`s got 88,000 miles, original paint in Buckskin Tan,6.2/700r4,a/c,p/w,hitch,am/fm,auto hubs, and that`s about it.It doesn`t even have rallye wheels.
I just happened into it and I could use something to bop around in other than my`92 work truck (bucket seats) full of tools and`72 K2500 that I don`t drive in winter.Having a back seat will be nice.I plan to lift it a couple inches and put a set of 12.50/33s on 8" steelies or tall skinnies like 255/85-16s,if I end up putting 8-lug axles under it.It`s nothin`fancy and just what I need.I guess I`ll get a rag-top next spring,if not this summer.I`ll get pictures next week when I go give the guy some money.

I've got an '87 swb step side 4x4 silverado that was bought new here locally and was one owner prior to me getting it. It has power windows and manual locks. Only one I've ever seen like it. Yours is the only other one I've ever heard of.

ive seen at least one manual window power luck truck as well, so they made some oddballs, i would prefer power windows over power locks though. Sounds like a nice truck, pics required

Re: `85 Jimmy Sierra P/W & Manul Locks

Ok Walt(wise guy),I`ll get some soon.I went by yesterday and sealed the deal verbally with no money or camera, just a hand shake. It was raining anyway. He wanted $2k and I gave him that and asked for EZ terms.I can only give him 1/2 now and will try to pay it off in 30 days.I have some work for a while,so I hope to not drag it out any longer. The motor is rebuilt w/ less than 5k on it.I was actually wanting it just for the motor in my`91 Suburban until I saw it.Those motors run about $3k to rebuild.
It wasn`t even for sale.I was going into town for sakrete and I saw him with the hood up on his Duramax.I hate to pass a guy in need, but figured I`d stop on my way back.If he was gone he didn`t need me.He was there so I stopped to help.It was cutting out on him and I offered up suggestions and checked it out.He already had a rollback coming and his mechanic was expecting it.I asked what company was coming for it and he told me it was his rollback. That`s when I realized who he was and I mentioned that Tan 6.2 Jimmy he used to have.He said he still had it and he rebuilt the motor. He said he doesn`t even use it and it was just sitting. He even let the tags run out the end of March.I was about to go get a 2wd`90 Suburban (350) for the motor and body for $1,000 and I got to thinking I could get this and keep the`Burb diesel, then sell off the the Blazer and all the Suburban stuff to pay for it all. And,maybe put the new TBI motor in my`72 with a 4L80E I have.I decided that`90 Suburban wasn`t what it was described as and back out on it.The body only had rust starting under the barn doors (mines good there),but the new GM motor w/4,500 miles turned into 6,000 (no biggy) and the heads turned out to be the old ones.He said it smoked when you first started it and that was because it had Chromoly rings that weren`t seated yet.Can you request the type of rings in a GM short block?Shouldn`t they be seated in 6,000 miles? And,doesn`t it sound like it`s the old valve seats?I didn`t need another motor to work on so I passed.Heck,I have`71 truck 350 with a recent top end on it I could toss in the`Burb, for that matter.
So,there`s another truck story for the book and now I`m getting me a li`l Jimmy that gets over 20 mpg.

Re: `85 Jimmy Sierra P/W & Manul Locks

Hey Tim I had an 85 buckskin blazer too. Mine was all buckskin color, vinyl seats, rubber floor mat, 305 with OD, ps,pb,air, cruise and rallys. The base model with single headlamps and power rear window, no console and no power door windows or locks.
It was just the ticket for a work truck for me as our lumber yard is all dirt n gravel. Dust doesn't show up on a buckskin truck too much and the rubber floor mat instead of carpet makes sweeping out the dirt and mud easy.
I kept that one for near 10 yrs. I decided I needed a truck bed. Yeah, I miss it. Every time I see a nice 80's blazer on the street I do take notice.
You are fortunate to find a low mile 85 with a 6.2 too. All the diesel blazers I see are trashed and non running.

This is Buckskin in and out, too. It has a console and the seats are in great shape.I plunked some money down on it.I`ll get it by July I hope.I`m lookin`for a set of 8" steel wheels.I`ll run it stock until I get the suspension, wheels, and tires together.
