Nothing Fits?
I thought I was about to wrap one step up but now I am back to square 1.
Despite advice from vendors -- 1975 rotors are not compatible with 1968 hubs because the rotors have larger holes for the studs to pass through than the hubs do. #2 -- I do not have a clue what studs to use. I have tried 3 sizes now and not a one of them will work right. The original drum studs are too short, the only other part number I can find for these hubs is too long, wont seat (so Advanced Auto is f.o.s. saying the y are for this hub) and the rotors rattle around on them. Wasted money and time that I didn't have to begin with... getting old. I can only barely afford this hobby to begin with and vendors sending me off to buy hundreds of dollars of the wrong parts is not helping. Has anyone done this disc brake swap for the rear without sending a mortgage payment to a vendor for sutom parts (that I am betting won't fit right either!) HO52 8 lug rear using brackets from RuffStuff and 75 K-20 front rotors.

Re: Nothing Fits?
How about redrilling the 68 hubs for the 75 studs - or some other stud large enough to be tight in the rotor?

Re: Nothing Fits?
I think a guy around the corner had his C20 converted and they had to drill out the original hub to use later model studs. After that it worked fine. Just remember him talking about it in passing.

Re: Nothing Fits?
Now that I have had my tantrum...
I'll take it apart again this weekend and see if what I have can be made to work. If I have to drill the hubs out I'll have to find a shop to do it because I don't think that's gonna work with a hand drill. lol

Re: Nothing Fits?
ok look go to your local junk yard get a set of factory 73-87 uppper an lower control arms an replace your 68 model arms with these with the73-87 model spindle an rotors. if for some reason the new arms dont want to fit then you can also change to the newer engine crossmember. i would think this would have been easier than haveing to have somebody drill your hubs out or whatever. but good luck an i hope this info is helpfull

Re: Nothing Fits?
OK, so I tore down one side and tapped in all of the wheel studs. The one major issue that remains is that the rotor has about 1/16" play side to side. Obviously -- that won't do.
I called up RuffStuff and the guy there suggested "stud stakes." Has anyone heard of these and, if so, how much ground can I make up with them?

I have seen factory front drum (not disc) assemblies where the stud shoulder protrudes slightly through the drum web and is then swaged over to hold the drum on. Maybe that's what RuffStuff is talking about, but I have never seen anything like that used on the rear. Ray |

Re: Nothing Fits?
OK... the guy from RuffStuff was obviously making something up. No one has ever heard of the gizmo he wanted me to get. It only seems to exist in his imagination.
I will have to take the hubs to a machine shop and get them drilled out. That's not terrible but I find it pretty aggravating that the vendor I am dealing with, who say they sell hundreds of the brackets for this conversion a month, seems to be totaly unaware that this complication exists. I have vendors I like (most of them are board supporters here) but too many others will say anything to get the sale and then are no help at all afterwards.
