What is wrong here?!?!

Was checking over my new 68 and I found an issue that has to be fixed immediately! You see it? How can I fix this? Anyone have any part numbers? Of course I am talking about the Upper Radiator hose! I assume the PO installed the incorrect upper hose.

Thanks guys!
CHRIS

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

looks ok to me besides for that gash! I tried goin the same way and installing an all rubber hose like that and i figured id have the same sort of "problem" you have so i just stuck with the steel one i have that actually bends around the alternator.

Id try looking into one of those

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

Those metal "hoses" were found mostly on 4x4 models IIRC.

Mine had one, but it rotted away in places.
Would LOVE to get another one on, so if anyone has a good one they'd part with then hit me up!

You could go to the local muffler shop and have them bend u a piece of aluminized pipe and make your own.

We always took a Budweiser can, cut the ends off, cut it in half, and clamped it to the hose!! Ha Ha

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

SweetandLong68, here’s what I’ve got going.
1968 short water pump SBC, non-ac, 2wd.

First pics are on my truck, clears the alternator adequately.
Bought from parts store, per application.

The 3rd picture is from my un-molested (doesn’t
mean the PO bought the right hose but it does look like it
would clear the alternator very well) parts truck.
The next picture confirms that that radical S-curve was used.

This picture is a radiator from a post-68 truck.

I think both configurations would give you the room you need for your alternator.

RockAuto says:
Gates #20617
Goodyear #20715
AC Delco #20608x

The above numbers would be for a hose like
the one on my truck.

IMHO-you would be better to get the right hose than
mess with cobbling it together/shielding the wrong
hose from harm or, gods-forbid, using a flex hose.

Good Luck..E

First off thanks for the part numbers. Will check them out.

Also I hear where you are coming from about using a correct fitting hose. I stated this exact thing in a previous post! I did what I had to do by protecting the hose I have now until I can get the 'mo better fitting hose.

THANKS!
CHRIS

BTW... Got any numbers on your altenator belt?

lata

your acc drive setup is not the correct one for a 67 - 72. The alt is on the wrong side.

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

have never had a problem just walking into NAPA or CARQUEST and getting the right hose for a 71 chevy with a 350ci motor, might take a day or two from the regional wharehouse but lots o times right in store stock too

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

Metal extensions were on 4X4's. Every 2 WD upper hose I've bought were too long and I had to trim about two inches off to keep it from pinching a kink in. Maybe he took too much off when he trimed it.

I am either sticking with my 4.11 or going 3.73 . I am going with a 700R4 so I wanna keep a little gear in there!

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

i'd just get an old piece of hose, cut it and clamp it over the good hose so it sits on the alternator.
Then the "old piece of hose" can get the gash in it. LOL
It's the poor man's way but it'll last for years.

It's funny but I had to do that on the lower radiator hose as for the life of me I could not get right one in there
