79 blazer np205 - swap out T221 - issues?

I have a great deal on a np205 from a 79 blazer with the adapter fpt a SM465.I have the 465 but just wonder if anyone can tell me any issues I mightr see when I swap out the 221 for the 205. I realize the drive shafts will need to be correct. Its a u-joint non-slip yoke TC.
Any feedback is apprciated since I am picking it up in the morning.

I did this swap a while back and this thread should be very helpful for you. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Re: 79 blazer np205 - swap out T221 - issues?

Thank you very much!!! For $100 for the TC I think its worth a shot. I'll have 2 T221's available if someone needs any parts. Next is to find replacement axles. Dana 60, 44s, Corps, 14 bolts, hard to understand whats the easiest replacement for a "hope to be" daily driver.

Thanks again Yukon!!

Re: 79 blazer np205 - swap out T221 - issues?

After reading your thread I am surprised at so much mods to swap in a 205 as I have the 2 piece DS as well. I don't have that skid plat to mount the carrier bearing up side down on so its either find one or come up with another idea. Since 69's could come with 205's I would have thought there wouldn't be so much work. Oh well hear I go.

So mods are:
TC Cross member is different - 1 inch lower for 205's - org can work
rear short DS mods.
carrier bearing mods
front DS mods.

Re: 79 blazer np205 - swap out T221 - issues?

And you have to move the tc crossmember as they are not positioned in the same location. I had to move my crossmember back 2" and then of course lower it 1".

The main problem is the rear output on the T221 was very high on the case and very low on the NP205.'

You'll also need to cut a new hole in your tranny floor cover since the shifters are in different locations.
