Header paint colors
I'm debating on what color to paint my headers. If you have done yours, what has worked best?

I used the aluminum color 1500° paint and it always gets flaky. Paint will never last on headers. Save the money and buy ceramic coated ones.

Mine are coated but they look ugly. Will the paint hold better since they are already coated?

I have never had a problem keeping VHT paint on my headers but I do the full prep route before painting. Sandblast with crushed glass media , wash thoroughly and bake for half an hour prior to painting. Let it cool then spray 3 medium cotes. Then bake at 350 for an hour, 450 for an hour , and turn it all the way up for an hour. Yes I have an oven in my garage ... and a sandblaster. VHT is the only paint that really works worth a damn IMHO.

I have sandblasted, then shot with brakeclean ...then let dry. I then use BBQ grill paint(any color you want so long as its black!). i dont drive my truck daily, or in the wet but have found the paint to hold up for a couple seasons before repainting. crazyL

Not that big of a deal. The oven I bought for $30 at a garage sale and I have it wired directly into the breaker box in the sub panel in my garage . Works great for restoration and painting projects. I have a small sandblasting cabinet at home and a much larger one I keep at work that I bought surplus from the boeing company at their surplus store. I keep it at work in the shop because its just too big to keep at home and we have 50 HP screw compressors there. I also have a big compressor at home which is real nice for sanding and paint work. In line sanders use a LOT of air..

On my 409 I sandblasted the headers when they were brand new, then brushed on Eastwoods stainless steel manifold coating and baked in an oven. After 7,000 miles they still look like the day I did them. Even brake fluid dripping on one for about a month from a bad master cylinder didn't affect it.
