A/C Questions..

Is it true the fact that A/C temps in cars should be at least 20-30 degree's cooler than ambient temps.. for instance... today it's about 100 degrees, humid, (the other day I bought a stick thermometer.. and charged up my A/C, some).. anyhow, today... during stop and go city driving, it got to about 60-65 degrees... took it on the highway drove it a bit .. and it hit about 50.. got it down to about 45 or so the other morning going to school, but the outside temp was prolly in the low 70's... cracked the hood open, and my Drier is ice cold, just sweatin like heck....and the lines coming from behind the compressor are sweatin, and ice cold to the touch too.. would think it would be icy inside too.. no? are these normal temps? Thanks in advance

(Then again, I guess cool air is better than none at all.. lol)

Re: A/C Questions..

Like my AC guy tells me about my shop units, "when it's 100 outside ain't nothin' gonna feel like it's cold enough". I'd venture to say that's all she's gonna do. Is why I like dark tinted windows and light and solid colored vehicles.

Re: A/C Questions..

if your drier is having ice build up on it, or close to it, then it could possibly have a restriction inside of it. probly contaminated. a good blowing a/c should blow around
40*F from the center vent with the ambient temp (about 2 inches away from condensor) around 70*F, the a/c at coldest setting. and rpm around 1700.

what are your high and low pressure readings?

I don't know about freezing... but the lines get real cold..... as far the high low pressures... I had the A/C converted over two summers ago(at a shop).. w/134a it did fairly well then...this summer decided to grab one of those do-it-yourself jobbers.. and see where I was at... it was in the 'green' meaning low on freon...put some in until it was at he proper level on the gauge(Blue).. and off I went...I know those things aren't the most accurate, but when your on a budget.. you gotta do what you gotta do.......... I noticed you were saying about 40 degrees at 70 ambient temp... thats about what I got the other day when it was 70ish out.. so I assume the hotter it is outside.. it isn't gonna get that cold... it's like 102 right now(humid too) I'm like the biggest do-it yourselfer, shadetree mechanic there is! lol I learn by mistakes and experience.
