Help with purchase
First off I would like to thank all of the members of this site that eagerly make information available to the masses. I have been reading through tons of old posts as I prepare to purchase a blazer and the wealth of knowledge here is incredible.
A little background, currently I am in the military and I will be returning from a deployment in about six months. I have made the decision after approval from the commander at home "aka my wife" that I would like to pick up a 69-72 blazer to "play" with when I get back. I am actually getting ready to head home on mid tour leave and I was able to find a blazer locally that looks to be a pretty good deal. It is a 1972 CST, the owner claims that it is completely untouched other than an aftermarket radio and some aftermarket wheels. No lift, or any other modifications, he did say that it is reliable enough to be a daily driver but it does smoke a little. As far as rust goes he claims that there is only some light rust in the rocker boxes. The truck has only been driven a couple of thousand miles since 1991. Most of my experience is with muscle cars so I wanted to get your guys opinions on what you think a fair price is, and what I should specifically look for. Current asking price is $7800. Thanks ahead of time for any help!! Here are some pics that he sent: I wasn't really sure where to post this, so if it is in the wrong subforum please move. |

Re: Help with purchase
I'd want detailed pictures of the "light rust". From the pictures & description, the price seems about right.

Re: Help with purchase
Thank you for your service to provide the freedom we all enjoy every day, I think that is a good starting out blazer as long as the rust is minor and not into windshield or body mount areas. tell him to at least hold it for you to have first dibbs when you return , I know that is asking alot of him but maybe they will understand.

Re: Help with purchase
It looks like a great buy. If that is the original paint and interior it looks like it was well cared for.

Re: Help with purchase
Thank you for your service. THe biggest thing I would look for is the rust of course....get pictures of the undercarriage especially the tortion boxes behind the rockers....and all of the body mount areas. Also the windshield frame under the top and the firewall. Rust before and after the wheels is much easier to repair.

Re: Help with purchase
Regarding our service, I really appreciate all the kind words, believe me it is people like yourselves that motivate myself and fellow soldiers to do what we do!
Fortunately I am going to be able to look at the vehicle in person before purchasing. It is the original interior and paint except for the top which has been repainted. I will definitely take your guys advice and check out the areas mentioned. Mechanically I am not to concerned because I can handle that myself, bodywork on the other hand scares me. In no way do I have the skills to take on some of the projects some on this board have. Nor do I have the cash to drop on having a body-shop do a ton of work. Hopefully it is only some minor rust, or I have stumbled onto one of the rare blazers that have no rust. |
