New guy with a 72 fleet project
I've been lurking around the forum for a while. I Picked my 72 up today and figured I might as well post it up. The plan is to go for the shop truck/patina theme for now. I've already picked up a set of 20X10...20X8.5 gray boss 338's to run. We're throwing together a 350 this week so she might be running by the end of the week. We'll see.....Gonna try to make to MS Cruisin The Coast. Sorry for the crappy cell pic, I'll get better photos later.

Re: New guy with a 72 fleet project
Well I never did get to start on the the truck. It's been sitting in storage at a buddies house. Hopefully this week I'll finally be able to get her to the shop. We did throw on a couple of the 338's for motivation though. Can't wait to start, this will be my 1st truck project!!! Better pics will come I promise.

Re: New guy with a 72 fleet project
Unfortunately you are correct! I figure this would be a good project to learn rust repair on. This truck will be a driver/cruiser. No plans for long term restoration here, what I hope do is get her up and running then start picking areas to address and dive in. Maybe I won't get in over my head!!!! The good thing is the rust is in the most common areas so there is plenty of info on the web to help me along.

Re: New guy with a 72 fleet project
The truck has a great stance already, do you know what was done to get it that way? Also didnt you have to modify the front rotors to get the 338's to fit?
Get busy dude, lets see the engine back in there and ready to hit the street wow, more than just me had some of the same thinking going on at the same time scary huh?

I haven't crawled under to confirm but I think I'm on the right track with the heated spring theory. My knowledge of these trucks is very limited so most of the time I don't half way know what I'm looking at. Hang in there with me though I'll get it!! |

Re: New guy with a 72 fleet project
Did you put spacers on your wheels? Love the way you got the wheels to fit.

Re: New guy with a 72 fleet project
Yeah actually they are 5x5 to 5x4.75 1.5" adapters. Buddy of mine picked up a smokin deal on a set of 4.75 338's so I jumped on them. As far as the stance goes...time will tell if it's functional or not. It's had the ghetto super heated spring lowering put on it so it probably would have clearence issues if it was drivable at the moment. I plan to pick up a 4/6 ECE drop which will probably actually raise this truck a little. Once the 4/6 is installed I figure the wheel tire combo will be good to go.
