tralier brake controller?

is it easy to wire a trailer brake contorller? i have a 2001 z71 is it somthing that i can do myself or a local shop wants 250 for the controller installed, is it worth it?

You may have a brake controller harness in the glove box if the truck was equipped with the tow package. My 00 z71 had it and the wires are labeled as to where they go on the controller. From there on its plug and play on the inside firewall fuse panel

O'Reillys sells a brake controller and wiring harness that is plug and play, no wires to be cut or spliced. Took me all of 5 minutes for a total install. There is a place to plug it in on the fuse block, comes with just enough wire to get it installed down low on the right side of the dash somewhere. Was like $50 for the controller and $20 for the wiring harness.

Yeah these trucks are super simple to add a brake controller in. Like Randy said it's a simple plug and play setup.

I like my Tekonsha Prodigy. Got the harness I needed with it. Plug and play (heck the bracket for it even lines up with the 2 holes on the metal bracket below the steering wheel).

You won't regret spending a couple extra $ to get the Tekonsha either. It's a great controller, mine's been through 2 trucks and I still love it.
