from doing a search on rosette rivets im not sure the ones i have on my cab are the right ones. wouldnt surprise me as the whole truck was rebuilt from a 6cyl 3 speed to 350 auto. im sure someone may have removed it in the past

heres a picture of the rivets, are they the incorrect rivets for 72? apparently all 70+ use rosette rivets

they don't look like the one's on my tag, but I would have a hard time explaining them. They have splits in the heads so they would look kinda like a flower...if that makes any sense

yea thats the description i got over the internet... these just look pretty round to me. the outside has a very slight hexagonal shape to it. the inside doesnt look that secured, maybe this ones just epoxied on lol.

Mine on my 72 looked like that. I grinded the back off them then poped them out and saved the heads to insatall using a new rivits.

the ones on my 69 were round, completely round. and it was original.

yea they didnt start using rosettes till 70 according to everything ive read

The one in my '67 look like the flower style, and the ones in the '72 look like that also. that's my input on the whole rivit thing.

The rivets on my 68's VIN tag are stainless rosettes . No mistaking them for anything but. While it wasnt a federal requirement until 70 I believe that GM was using them well before that. It could have been a plant by plant deal although I doubt it. If you have round rivets on a 69 you might wantto do a little bit more checking.

well i just checked my 2001 blazer and saw what the flower shape is theyre talking about. and after scratching off the paint around my vin tag (yea previous owner didnt even both taping it off) i see that they actually have the same shape, all the paint just made them look round

i know for a fact chevy used rosettes in 65 from one i had inspected from the state patrol.i think the inspector said 64 might of been the first year or the last year for regular rivets or screws

Both of my 70 trucks looked like this, as did my 69. (the rivits are about the only things the same when it comes to the VIN plates on the 3 trucks.)

Just a little observation. It wouldnt be difficult at all to trim the edges off a stainless steel pop rivet to make it look like that.

BTW is that a one ton longhorn? What do they mean by "as manufactured" and why does that differ from the rated 9000 lbs gross?

Yes it is the one ton Longhorn...and I don't know. I never even really read that...I just saw 9000 pounds and stopped looking.

Has anyone ever bought from "Trim Tags"?

I once e-mailed them and asked if they could send me a picture of those "rossette rivets" they sell to ensure they were EXACTLY like the original ones for the 67-72 trucks. I just wanted to see what they sell out of curiosity.

They replied that there is NO picture available to send and wouldn't be able to get one!?

I thought that was very odd. Even their directions on how to put their rivets on are strange.

Their directions said something like this........use a long screw with a washer and nut to smash the rivet in place like the original ones were applied.......

The original ones were applied just like a "typical" rivet, and NOT with some screws, washers and nuts.

I think it would be very interesting to see what they sell, but I am not going to throw away $20 for 2 rivets that may or may not work and I don't need anyways.

Have you tried cleaning the paint off yours. They look like the correct ones. judging from the pic Longhornmail posted to me just coated with alot of paint.

I have heard someone that cut them from the back side of another cab them epoxi glue them back in.

I called trim tags today after reading this post. The guy I talked to said that the rivits were easy to put in to the truck with a everyday rivit gun. And he told me that it was $20.00 per pair. I am sending him money on Monday to get a set for the '67 I am working on. I will post a pic if everyone would like when I get them in my hands. There web sight is pritty vaque, as far as there info goes. Good luck, to everyone !! Landon

Thanks for the effort. I was looking at their site several months ago too, but felt they were iffy. If they look good, I'm sure many restorers regardless of make and model would be able to use them. I also have considered grinding regular round rivits, but worried about factory look and size. I will be watching with great anticipation. Thanks, Don
