Gotta bad case of the "stares".
I have a ways to go on my project and really need to get some stuff done on it this weekend, but all I can seem to do this morning is stare at it. Been in the garage for 2 hours this morning and all I've managed to do is stare...stare...figure out what parts I need to run a fuel line from the blazer tank to the fuel pump...stare...stare some more...etc.
I must be subconsciously overwhelmed with the work that's left...I keep telling myself to just pick a small task and complete it, but I can't seem to get moving. Maybe it's the heat...high today is 103, tomorrow is supposed to be 106....which would make it at least 18 days in a row of 100+ heat. And the humidity makes it even worse. Forgive the rant, just wanted to call myself out for being a pansy.

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
Staring, or contemplating? I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sometimes I like to just sit and look at stuff. Call it quiet bonding, or meditative visiting. I swear that my truck just gives off energy at times. .......or maybe that's just the gas fumes....

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
To me its just part of owning and admiring our trucks. I do the same thing from time to time. My wife will come into the garage and ask what are you doing? I just say thinkin& hangin . I think think this is a way to decompress after a long work week. ( yes we are normal) cheers, Pat

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
It's O.K., dude, this is supposed to be fun - break it down into even smaller pieces, like "i'm gonna put this hose clamp on and start to run the fuel line" and give yourself a break after that, grab something cold to drink, relish your accomplishment, and move on. If it's too hot, wait until this evening. I'm worthless in the heat as well, but we haven't had a day over 75 degrees yet this summer, so it hasn't been a problem for me. But whatever you do, hang in there. Procrastination only brings more procrastination.

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
75! I'm jealous. The heat index now is 110. The hottest part of the day in Texas in August is usually from 2-7pm. I picked my daughters up from the airport last night and it was 97degs at 11pm!!

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
Ever looked inside a 67 Firebird and saw how nice your garage floor looked? I'm petrified of this car
I want to get rocking on it, but $ is my issue.

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
I'm a little East of Dallas in a town called Forney.
I'm definitely installing AC in the garage next spring. When the house was built I had them insulate all the walls and install insulated garage doors. I just need to insulate the attic above, cut a hole in the wall above the walkout door, and install a through wall AC unit. I ran the fuel line. Now I'm wrestling with the fuel pump...keeping the rod in the up position while trying to get the bolts started is a pain in the YKW. I'm using the grease trick, but it's so hot in the garage the grease won't keep it still.

Not only do I stare at my burb while in the garage, I also stare at the pictures I've taken of her at work...

I'll go out in the garage at night and check out the truck and firebird side by side and wonder how I go so lucky I'll turn on the radio and just make mental lists of all the things to do, stuff I need to get, what order, etc... The car really is a disaster, but seeing the truck "done" beside it makes me think that maybe I can do it...

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
Heck some times I just set in my one of my old trucks and listen to the radio leaning back in the seat with my eyes closed, but not asleep.
See I am such an old fellar I use to drive these old trucks when they were new. I own old trucks for nostalgia more than anything else. I have been having the stare problem lately since it has been so darn hot here in the flatlands of Missouri lately. I too would like to put air conditioning in my shop by next year, but first have to finish the current project I am working on. The current project has drug on way too long, it is a 16' by 24' room I am building for sewing and craft work.

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
I hear ya. I am in North Dallas and have to work in my driveway. Man its HOT out there.
By the way, you can hold the fuel pump rod by placing a longer bolt in the motor mount hole on front of the block. At least on a small block.

I got it in earlier by doing that. Thanks though. Now I'm inside, drinkin' a cold one...it's ridiculously hot outside!

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
Boyd,
Noticed you said you are in Forney. I too am in Forney, out near Shamrock. If you get tired of staring at your truck feel free to stop by and stare at my truck. Maybe your staring will inspire me to do something. Probably not but maybe. |

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
Does anyone know if people still meet on Tuesday evenings at East Texas Choppers in Terrell? I met with the East Texas Classics guys there a few times. Occasionally had some nice vehicles show up.

Re: Gotta bad case of the "stares".
I got a 5 gallon bucket I use as a seat in the garage. When ever I got to figure out how to do the next step I sit on the bucket and stare until the solution presents its self. I call it "bucket time"
I think staring is part of the process. You'll be fine. |
