How important is this part?
I see a lot of people missing this, as well as myself. Is this needed? I figure it was put there for a reason. Someone school me here.

Yeah, I've only seen it on a couple trucks that I have come across. I am guessing it’s not a big deal, but wanted some input before I start assembling my frame. I thought it might be a 4x4 add on for little extra support???

4x4's had straight axles and leaf springs.
Maybe a 3/4-1ton thing for 2wds?

Found one, Ackattack has them on his 68 swb. I think it started its life a 1/2 ton? but then he also could have added them too.

I found a set on a Big Block truck and were told it was to stiffin the frame ???????????????? I think put them on the shelf, I'll have to take another look see

I switched my front cross member with an 81 chevy. My 69 did not have it but the 81 did so I put it on after I cleaned it up. It seems to be just a little more bracing.

Turns out that my 68 LWB C20 does not have this either. Bet its like 1970 cst sw said - big block weight or torque support - if it is stock part like drawing suggests. Someone said they knew where to get, got link? Extra strength sure sounds OK to me if the bolts are long enough for the extra 1/4 inch. On my '67 3/4 ton, the angle pieces (blue arrow) that are riveted to the crossmember are forged steel. I removed the complete suspension from a '76 3/4 with big block for the disc brake conversion. The '76 had pressed steel angle brackets, but had these extra pieces on the inside of the frame rail.
I put the '67 crossmember back on the truck because I liked the forged ears better. I had to take it apart anyway to keep the original 6 cyl springs and change the bushings. The top bolt hole on the bracket had to be redrilled to line up with an existing hole on the frame rail top. Just as with a crossmember switch, the inside bracket had one hole that lined up, one that had to be redrilled and two that had to be elongated. These inside brackets are a lot beefier than the ones you have shown. This is driver side, inside frame rail shown.
