Dash paint?

Should I use my can of TSC paint through the gun or the Duplicolor rattle can? I just finished filling the holes and cracks with bondo.

Why not just pick up a spray can of vinyl paint that's made for this kind of job?

I have that in Duplicolor. I'm just wondering about the durability of that product compared to an industrial paint through the paint gun.

i used vinyl rattle can on my door panels works great just primer and clear coat it and you shouldnt have any problems

You shouldn't have to prime it. I'm pretty sure it supposed to adhere and bond with the panel. Primer would eliminate the need for a specialty paint.

If you filled the holes with Bondo, you are going to need filler primer to cover that. If you apply any type of topcoat the repair will be very visible.

I know that. There are only small spots of bondo.

I bought an adhesion Promoter from eastwood when I did my paint and for once nothing is peeling. It will be fine on the parts that don't move or flex, but has a tendency to flake or peel off when the door panels flex later on.

I have to give props to the vinyl paint eastwood sells. I had a couple of good runs on one door panel, but buy the time it had dried, the runs had vanished and all the texture was fully intact. Non-vinyl paints are thicker, and tend to fill in the textures more.

silicone caulking is a great alternative, as it remains flexible over time, yet is strong enough to stick to the edges of dashboard cracks as they expand and contract


•Use a utility knife to "V" cut the crack slightly. Be careful not to cut too much, shave away just enough to form a "V" shape, to allow easy application of the silicone caulking.

Clean well both inside and outside of the crack, removing all dust and loose particles. Allow the area to dry well before proceeding.

Mask either side of the crack with painters tape to keep the caulking in the opening and not on the good vinyl dashboard. Silicone caulking dries clear, but shiny.

Apply the silicone caulking into the crack and allow it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes, before removing the tape. If the crack is small, simply remove the tape and allow the silicone to dry. If the crack is larger, you can choose to texture the silicone using the texturizing portion of a vinyl repair kit. It is best to texture before removing the tape, however you must texture within 10 to 15 minutes, before the silicone dries too much to take the texture.

Paint larger cracks in your dashboard with vinyl paint eastwood to reduce visibility. Allow the silicone to dry at least two hours before painting.

I second the silicone. I used Duplicolor adhesion promoter, along with their vinyl paint, and couldn't be happier. I am sure you already know, but degreaser/wax remover, #00 (fine) scotch brite pads, and paint thinner for prep.

for me its dawn dishwashing liquid and rubbing alcohol for prep. paint thinner may be a little hard on vinyl with the adhesion promoter no need for scotch brite pads texture may be removed or Spotted
