72 truck with 71 doors panel question

Previous owner of my truck had put a piece of plywood wrapped in carpet on as a door panel. I bought new door panels expecting to put them off when we paint. Yesterday I went and checked the body shop and found out the doors are actually from a 71 it looks like. When we moved the carpet there was no holes for the door clips. Just 4 or 6 screw holes on the corners for a panel. I am guessing that is for the metal 71 panels? I would like to make it look like a 72 inside. Is there a way to make this happen? If I drill holes for the clips on the 72 panel maybe? The door handle and mirror matched holes, but I know one sets in deeper than other. Thanks for any input.

I know the door panels for '72 are different, and that means that the window regulators and door relays have longer shafts for the handles to clear the panel. I am unaware that the door is different, just because the panel is different.

What tells you that the door is one year or the other?

The door on the 72 has holes for the clips on the back of the door panel to slide into. This door has factory made screw holes for a screw to go in on all 4 corners. I know the regulators stick out farther on the 72. I am curious if I could modify my panel a little to make the handles slide on.

The previous owner of my truck did it to mine.... He just drilled holes in the door for the clips.... I didnt even think about the shaft length.....if thats true then that explains why mine are a little tight

Anyone have pictures of the 72 door panels on older doors? Do that work ok?
