How do you pick it up
Is there a good point to attach a strap or a chain to be able to lift the engine and trans? This is a 350 LSx and I have chains or straps with overhead hoist or cherry picker, but I don't see where to connect to the engine.
If I run the strap around the whole engine, it interferes with the motor mounts when I set it in the frame. I know this sounds stupid but . . . |

Re: How do you pick it up
I have one of those levelers with my shop hoist. I bolt one end to each end of both the heads to disperse the load and pick it up that way.

Re: How do you pick it up
Use 2 chains. Tie one to the front of both heads. Tie one to the back of both heads. Put your hook in the center.
Mine is a little easier with the single plain intake.

Re: How do you pick it up
I guess it would have been easier just to say my leveler has 4 ends that attach to the end of each head... then attaches to the crane hook, with a crank system to level things out.
Have you ever lifted by the intake Super73? I've seen the plates....but I'm afraid its too much weight for the small intake bolts to hold...especially is theres a trans on the back.

Re: How do you pick it up
I hooked my leveler in the 4 corner valley pan bolt holes with longer bolts with standard size heads and thick washers. Jay

Re: How do you pick it up
I tried to simulate the factory type lifting arms that bolt to the heads.

Re: How do you pick it up
I have used the 4 bolts on the carb plate many times with my alum LS1. I'm trying to remember if I have ever done it with the trans attached. I don't think I have. I can tell you though, my fully dressed LS1 with water pump alternator ect weighed in right at 400lbs. My 80E when on the pallet with factory verter weighed in at 270lbs. I have seen people pull traditional SBC's with transmitions on them with a carb plate on an alum intake and they have to weigh more than my junk.

Re: How do you pick it up
it just seems the LSx intake bolts are too small to handle that kind of load. Guess not.

Re: How do you pick it up
I just run my short dedicated engine hoist chain from one head to the opposite corner of the other head. I had the intake off at the time, but this is the way I have always done it, SB and BB too.

Re: How do you pick it up
Just for reference,
Here is the factory style lifters, lifted engine and tranny. I couldn't find any source for these at the time. TR

Re: How do you pick it up
IIRC those have 2 bolts each...so it would be about the same as one bolt per head at the 4 corners.

Re: How do you pick it up
I used 1 chain from the bottom alternator bolt with an eyelet off of it to the rear opposite head.

Re: How do you pick it up
Yep, 2005 SSR (6.0L, 390 HP).
Seems like a perfect swap for an old truck. By the way, the SSR weighs 4750#. More than 1200# more than my 65. TR

68,
No, I am just using it as a fun DD and trying to get high mpg. It will sure get on with the program though. TR
