tach cluster
just picked up a tach cluster at the pick n pull. need to know what modifications need to be made to my wiring harness. i think i can go back and grab the main gauge harness out of the same truck. i'm converting from my stock 79 gauges to this 73-75 style tach cluster, but i plan on using my electric oil pressure gauge, and voltmeter. i know the wiring will be mismatched, so how do i make it work? thanks

Re: tach cluster
send me the cluster and forget the headaches (: haha i know you have to run a wire to the distributor to get a tach reading

Re: tach cluster
I just did mine but it has the gas gauge built into the tach, but for the ammeter to voltmeter change, one contact has to be moved from the 3 o'clock to the 12o'clock position for your old voltmeter to work with the new circuit board. Once you have the old one out, place them side by side and you see what needs to be moved. You'll also have to remove some of the clear insulation over the copper trace.
No need to swap harnesses. You can remove each wire with a small screwdriver and put it in the correct location for the new cluster. You do need the tach harness tho. For the oil gauge, the mech gauge physically mounts differently to the housing then the elec one so you might have to make some kind of bracket up.

Re: tach cluster
Wiring for an amp meter gauge has a built in shunt somewheres in the system. Where I have no idea, You can't simply switch the cauges and call it good unless of course you wanna let the smoke outta all your wiring.

Some one want to put together a nice "How to" with pics. This would be an awesome FAQ...
