Wife drivers?
Guys,
How many of your wives drive your trucks from time to time? I'm thinking if my wife would learn to drive the truck, I could probably sell a vehicle and keep the truck as a daily driver and she can keep her SUV, but on occasion when we need to swap she could drive the truck. But curious (for those of you not in the NEVER LET HER TOUCH THE TRUCK camp) if your lady has been comfortable driving the projectmobile? |

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife doesn't like to ride in my truck, although she did have to drive it a few years ago. She was a bit apprehensive, but made it w/o any issues.
When your title said "wife drivers" I let my brain think along the lines of a cattle drover and a herd of cattle....like on a cattle drive. Makes "wife drivers" a whole 'nother thought..

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife likes driving my trucks. She's just a country girl from the northern part of Ohio where alot of women were raised driving trucks.

Re: Wife drivers?
Mine likes to drive my truck and I am willing to let her drive it anytime. She does not take it very far and knows how to identify a clogged fuel filter (the only driveability issue that I currently have). I can imagine if she had to drive it as much as I do she would get tired of driving it. The spring pack and lack of a/c makes it an uncomfortable ride for any long period of time.
Before you let your wife drive it I recommend educating her on all of the numerous issues that a carburetored vintage vehicle can experience. Issues like flooding, hot start, clogged fuel filter, vapor lock, cold starting, are easy to deal with if you know what you are doing. If she gets a little frustrated on a bad hot start issue and floods the crap out of it, you will get the frantic call with all the bs that comes with it. Then she will never be willing to drive it again.

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife drives our trucks all the time(she can jam gears with the best of em) I got a call one time from a friend who, saw her driving our 65 nova coupe 400 plus hp@wheels& doing a burn out no less! I told him its her car too and she can handle it. ( this blew his mind ) he said what if she wrecks it? & I told him as long as she can walk away I'm good. its always best to involve em in what your doing! so, you can still do it! cheers, Pat

Re: Wife drivers?
After i installed my new smallblock my wife said she does not like it because it accelerates to quick and with manual steering and brakes its not safe for her. You know what tht means more seat time for me.

Re: Wife drivers?
I'm ok with my wife driving my truck. No issue there. I would be afraid of what parking lot space she'd try to squeeze into though.

Re: Wife drivers?
To start with, my wife has her own 70 shortbed. 350, 3 speed on the floor. I don't mind if she takes the others, since owning her own she understands things. I got her driving my plymouth last year on her own. That is entertaining with the big block, 3:91 sure-grip, and reverse pattern full manual valve body trans.........

Re: Wife drivers?
mine likes trucks and has driven every one we've had. She says she's gonna drive my truck when I get thru with the current 500+hp LSx build...I told her it might get a bit scary if she keeps her foot in it tho.

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife drove double bottoms for a few years for her dad, she drives whatever of ours she wants to. Oh, and she has her own 1800cc cruiser and 600cc sport bike as well as the 1965 Dart GT (350HP 340, 4 speed) that she learned how to drive in.
In case you don't know what a double bottom is, then...

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife likes to drive my truck. Sometimes, she even gets upset when I won't let her drive it. She's a country girl, but grew up in the city, if that makes any sense. She was raised around horses and farms, which almost always includes trucks in one way or another, so she just prefers trucks any day, no matter what kind it is. She wants a truck for herself sometime, but she wants a fleetside. The biggest complaint she has with my truck is she says the steppers are ugly. Some women just don't know a good thing when they see it.

Re: Wife drivers?
My wife would ride in my truck if we are going to a cruise or a show she has driven it around our neighborhood but she hates how loud it is and the "old smell"...
