Pillar Fender Seals
I got my new dust seals and just wondering if anyone has a picture of them installed, the drawing in my assembly manual shows location but still not sure about the two small hinge pieces. pictures show the kit I have and the metal pillar sides that get stapled.
Thanks 7D2N |

Re: Pillar Fender Seals

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
I've always wondered how do you put those big staples in? Anyway I am a ways off from trying yet! Here are some shots I took on disassembly. Don't really show alot to be honest!

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
I did mine recently, got them at Classic Parts. Most people on here were saying that these were such a PITA to install and the end result and benefit made it not worthwhile...I tend to agree. I ended up just installing the two large pieces, there was no way I had the tools to fix those large staples so I just used the self taping hex head screws to fix them onto the metal bracket, then fitted the bracket with seals attached back to the body, but then the cut out ends that sit over the door hinges didn't line up so I had to trim them and the final holes to fix them to the body also didn't aline...the small separate pieces went in the bin were they belong

Thanks Billy, that will help a bunch. I have a couple of ideas for the stapling part.

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
Dont use the staples they give you with the shields. Go to lowes or depot and get some staples to use in putting up insulation etc. The staples they send do not fit the brackets if you will look in assembly manual in the 1970 section I think there is a better diagram of the actual assembly.

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
I used the staples that came with the kit. I used a small drill bit to drill through the existing staple holes and into the shields. Then I pushed the staples through and bent them over with a pair of wire cutters to get the bend started, and them hammered them over. Took about 10 minutes to do the set.

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
Well I finished up the pillar dust seals, thanks for the responses it helped a lot. Zoomin the way you suggested is the way I ended up doing it after a few failed attempts.
Thanks 7D2N |

Great job 7D2N. I can copy you now, I just hope my memory doesn't completely fail by the time I get to do mine!

Re: Pillar Fender Seals
Glad it worked for you. I was tempted to blow off putting them on, but since mine had them I wanted to put it back that way. I'm not sure what good they do, but what the heck.
