Re: Old pictures
I was born back then! 1962 anyway! I have always thought it would be cool to have been an adult back then though. I dont know why but everytime I see pictures from the 50s and early 60s it seems like it would be a nice era to be alive. It's seems so much more simple and peaceful!

Looks like not much has changed... At least they made some gorgeous trucks and cars back then, vehicles which we are indebted deeply to on this site. Neat pictures, btw. Here's one of my own, my company's first delivery truck:

Re: Old pictures
The '59 Ford in the pic w/bears, is like the one my dad bought new in June, of '59. It was our first new car and only his 3rd car ever. I took the Ford to Biloxi when I was in the USAF, in '67. It had a little over 100K and absolutely would NOT spin the tires on wet grass. That 292 got a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing while I was there.

Re: Old pictures
I like looking at the old pictures and seeing where everything came from. Some I know of, a lot of them I don't it's just cool to see our history unfolding in front of you.

When I was a wee little snapper I went with my dad when he bought his 1970 hugger orange 3/4 ton chevy truck loaded $4,500.00 out the door! on the way home we went to get a burger and talk about our new truck! great memories for me. maybe thats why I'm so fond of these wonderful trucks! cheers, Pat

Re: Old pictures
Anybody know what bridge this is. It is on the East coast. They just built a new one a year or so ago to take it's place. I remember driving over it a few times the last was with my Suburban it just did make it. I thought I was going to hit everything on that bridge but it didn't.

Re: Old pictures
from CHEVLOREY: "the Arab oil embargo of '73 made gasoline go up to almost a dollar a gallon! Waiting in lines for gas wasn't unusual in some areas."
Putting a date on myself here: My wife & I got married in 1969, and that summer, there was a "gas war." For you youngsters who don't know: that was where gas stations tried to see who could sell their gas the cheapest of anybody...... (Those days are gone forever) So, anyhow, gasoline was originally about 21 - 22 cents a gallon, and once got down to 11.9 cents / gallon (truth) for a few days. When I graduated from college & we moved to the Chicago area, a year or three later we were new-car shopping, and were teetering between a Gran Torino CobraJet & a Hemi Charger. Of all things, on the spur of the moment, we ended up buying a small "fun-car" instead, a VW beetle convertible !!! Six months later, people were lined up in -10 degree WINDY weather early-early in the AM, waiting for gas stations to let you in, just so you could buy a few gallons of their gas at ANY price. Sure was glad to have that VW, instead of a gas guzzler. Those near-new muscle rides were CHEAP back then. Wish I'd had enough sense to buy a multi-million dollar retirement fund for a few thousand $$$. Last edited by 68shortstep; 10-18-2010 at 11:21 AM. |

Re: Old pictures
Get this....I SOLD my '71 VW (which I bought new) in the spring of '73. I bought a '56 Chevy 4-dr wagon, 265-stick, to replace it. Reason? Had just bought a house and the payments of $112/mo were more important to me than the $78.77 car payment. I know that some of you guys are reading this and thinking about those two items, but unless you were there....it won't matter.
