So I started my truck this morning and its on 7 cylinders....
Woke up, got dressed, hopped in the truck to go to school, and thats when it hit me, sounds like it in constantly hiccuping (<--- If that makes sense), So far I have sanded down the cap, and the rotor, checked all the plug wires. and no luck, tommorrow i'm going to check the timing, replace points and condensor, and if that doesn't help take out my plugs and maybe do a compression test.. and this is the funny part about this once I got to school and realized how bad it was missing. I threw it in park and gave it about a 1/8 of throttle and after the motor hit the peak RPM and was coming down I heard some metal hitting each other, it happened three times back to back. has not happened since though. Any input guys? thanks in advance!!

I may be wrong, but I had a similar situation when I completely wiped out two cam lobes on my old 350... My .02...

I had an old 454 that only ran on 7...the intake valve was stuck open for some reason. I drove a couple thousand miles like that.

Re: So I started my truck this morning and its on 7 cylinders....
If you have headers you can easily see which cylinder is missing by spraying some water on them. The missing cylinder won't make the water evaporate as quickly. Once you find the cylinder that's missing, do some basic checks. Make sure the plug wire is good, isn't burned, both ends are firmly attached, etc. Make sure the plug isn't broken or corroded. All the basic stuff. If all of that looks fine, then you can look at the rockers and valves to see if anything is amiss.
If you've got stock manifolds, the water test doesn't really work. |
