New to Me 71 k5

Just got my k5 a few days ago. She looks good on the outside but inside bed area and underneath are pretty rusted. She is at my buddies shop to see how good or bad the driveline and engine are. There is some sort of horrible noise about 40 mph. I think it is the bottom of the motor. But I should know in the next couple of days. Found out it has dana 60s front and back, no lift and one seat actually attached. So it should prove a fun project for the next few years considering I bought it solely off pictures.

Nice score. Welcome from San Antonio. I don't think those are 60's though. Prob a 12 bolt rear and a DANA 44 up front. Very nice though. Good luck with your build.

Sorry guys I was wrong, they are 44"s not 60"s. I am still in the process of figuring out what I have.

I have some questions you pros would know.
1. The bed of my truck is a big pile of rust. From the tailgate to about 2/3s back to the front seats. The supports are all eaten up. What is a common fix for this? I emailed one of the vendors and they suggested the swb bed replacement for 67-72 truck.

2. Since I need to take out the floor what is the best way to secure the rest of the body so that I do not have everything out of line later? A buddy of mine are thinking of cutting the bed portion out and lifting the rest of the body off the frame.

3. SIMPLEST gas gauge to put on temporarily? I ran the k5 out of gas today when the po had said the fuel gauge worked.

Kinda tricky around the 'B' posts, stuff is sorta hard to get at, best to leave that area alone. I supported my bedsides at the rear by hanging them from roof rafters. Then I was able to remove the entire floor including all cross braces. You can rack the bed when your done to insure that it is square!

At the time I couldn't find a good used bed, 6 months after I put the wood bed in, I found a bed in Jersey with the same color as my truck....go figure
