Motor problems...

So lately when my truck shifts into a higher gear and its in the lower part of that gear everything will be very shaky. Also when I'm driving and have the gas pedal set at a certain point it will be going one speed and then start accelerating by itself until it shifts to the next gear without me moving my foot.

If anyone has had this similar problem or might know what it could be any help would be appreciated.

Re: Motor problems...

are you sure the part of shaky in the bottom end of the gear is not pre ignition?

Re: Motor problems...

When's the last time the trucks had a tune-up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor...

Re: Motor problems...

I just recently changed the plugs rotor and distributor cap. I also had thought it had to do with my fuel pump because it was staling out so I changed the pump and I've changed the fuel filter.

Re: Motor problems...

possible vacuum leak? that would cause the motor to idle high and when put in gear, want to accelerate without you touching the gas

Re: Motor problems...

Turns out that my plug wire was laying up against my headers and was causing it to miss fire. Also there is a possibility that my carb is caked up figuring its still the original one that's never been touched. Also the mixture control solenoid is bad.

So I'm going to have to get a new carb that will also pass smog. Does anyone know where to get either another Quadrajet or any other carb that's California smog exempt.
