grease cap

is it necessary to have a grease cap on the center hub of a rotor? I have ralley wheels and i had bought short snout center caps that say chevroley motor division, and they just dont fit on the front and if i coild take the grease cap off , they will fit. any takers/ THANKS MIKE

do you like replacing bearings?
if yes leave off the cap..
you might be able to make the caps shorter..
take and measure the rotor lip that it sits on. and how far the nut and cottor pin sticks past it..
then measure the cap. you might beable to cut it down some and reweld on the top
how much room you need,

if you dont have it dust will get in and eat up your wheel bearings. its not a grease cap but a dust cap

i just took a hammer and smooshed mine down when i had that problem

I had to cut a hole in the cap and remove dust cover on my 77 with the short cap
like these

other than getting dirt moisture and other crap that tends to ruin bearings theres no real need for a dustcap

i have 15x10 chrome rallys with those caps and my dust caps clear just fine
