good place to grab power for tach?
putting an aftermarket tach in the 64 with an HEI conversion. Red lead (has its own inline fuse) needs to grab a switched 12v lead.
Anybody know if I can splice into the Pink wire that goes from Ign Switch to the Bat terminal of the HEI? Would that cause signal interference? or is it better to home run it back to the fuse panel? If so, any idea which terminal to run it to? I currently dont have wiring done or battery in the truck so I cant physcially trace a switched 'Hot'. Thanks |

I did also completely eliminate my heater assembly - I suppose thats a 12v switched lead, right? Also, what about the cigarette lighter? Is that a switched 12v source, or is that always hot?
Again, I know i could trace this if I actually had power in the truck any help is much appreciated as always! |

The heater is switched...not sure if the cig lighter is or not.

Of the choices you mentioned, your best bet is the pink wire feeding the HEI. You should not get any signal interference there. The heater feed will work too, but is hot in both the IGN and ACC positions, if your switch has an ACC. The cigarette lighter is hot all the time.

Ray, I hadnt thought about heater circuit being hot at ACC. but only thing that affects is if I left it switched to ACC, like with radio on in parking lot or something, the tach would sit live at '0', right? A negative really only if I had a radio I guess !haha Since I wont be putting a heater back in, doesnt this in effect get me the home run to the fuse panel?

Sure, as long as you know about the ACC position, I can't see any harm in using the heater feed. In all honesty, I don't really know that the tach would suffer any harm even if left powered up with the engine not running.

I used the switched wire to the ign. and it works perfect. Just grab a tester and see which wire to the ign goes hot with the switch on and splice into it. IMHO

I pulled power for mine on the switched terminal on the fuse block. The only wire going to the dist is the green wire for the signal.
