Re: Impossible!

Hi 79gmcclassic,

Yeah, the aluminum trim was only available in the upper trim level trucks and a lot of those came through with AC, making the non-AC ones pretty rare.

Also, I believe the brushed aluminum didn't come along until 78 ... making it a 78-80 only item. The 73-77 trucks with the upper trim levels featured woodgrain dash & door panel inserts instead.

Yes, that is correct. The one pictured below is for a 77 Silverado. Trust me, it's an elusive item too.

Re: Impossible!

You could always go have one custom made at a local sheet metal shop.

Re: Impossible!

Cheyenne pickup parts has a complete non a/c bezel for $169.95. Looks like the overlays are for a/c, but if your lower left one is in good shape, you might be OK.

Re: Impossible!

Yeah the brushed didn't come along till 78...fits the other year models to (73-77) I want to get a brushed AC one for mine to replace this horrid wood (not bashing wood just mine) and they cost an arm and a leg......they look good though....

Re: Impossible!

A little more on the dash bezel topic:

73-74 are unique because the headlight switches are in a different spot than later years and the lettering on the wiper switch is illuminated by rudimentary fiber optics. They also have a unique woodgrain pattern (a dark straight grained wood design).

75-76 are physically interchangable with the 75-80 bezels , but also have unique woodgrain pattern (burled walnut).

77 Again, physically interchangeable, but 77 has it's own pattern of woodgrain (oak). In addition, 77 was the first year of power windows and locks. This leads to MANY MANY variations in the door panel trim for these years. Woodgrain on the door with and without pull straps, with and without power locks, with an without power windows and all the combinations of those. This makes 1977 trucks with odd options a real pain to restore.

78-80 brushed aluminum becomes the high end dash and door panel trim

Of course, in 89-91 fancy dash and door panel trim went back to woodgrain. It most closely resembles the 75-76 woodgrain pattern (burled walnut) in the earlier trucks.

Re: Impossible!

I wonder if the non a/c trucks had the brushed dash and gauge panel trim. Here are some pics of the original interior 78 Cheyenne I had and you can see it isnt brushed but a silver grained panel. Maybe they used brushed in 79-80 but this is original.

Looks like it's just the standard black one, but painted silver. So that just widened your search a good bit.
