When is enough, enough?
I started to collect trucks in 05, got burned out in 08 and started back 6 months ago.......warning extremely graphic depictions of an addiction!
Only part of the truck collection in NC, I won't go into the lifelong car collection stored in a family owned building in MD |

Enough is when they are built and you are happy.

Re: When is enough, enough?
it's only an addiction if you admit you have a problem.
I see it as a collection, not an addiction. |

Re: When is enough, enough?
Plus at another buddies shop, 67 wrecker, 72 wrecker and a 57 2 ton wrecker, 87 1 ton 4x4 with service body and a few parts trucks. At the house , 99 3/4 big block burb, 72 burb, 59 panel and a 57 3100.
I have decided to decide what to do, maybe, I have a small collection of muscle cars in storage in md that were set up for long term storage, so not much work to put back on the road. Just about all my truck collection is rust free and good shape parts. probably 20 327's 10 350's, carb, tpi and tbi a few 283's and 307's 5 396/402 4 454 1 383 1 496 1 409 1 348 2 292's some old straight 6's too many transmissions to keep count 400/200/700/480le/sm 465/muncie's/sags 8 or so complete a/c systems 2 dual air and on and on, trim, bed sides pretty much everything Any suggestions, no way I can put all of these back on the road and I work by myself. Thanks, Steve |

Then i would ask myself if i could use some money now or should i just sit on it all and maybe get around to using it or selling it.... someday.... (???????) Right now it looks like you have so much stuff in your collection you don't have an open bay to work with for any project, do you need room to work??? Is it impossible to accomplish a task without haveing to first move about 20 items just to make room? ( Possibly eh?) And lastly think of the sense of pride you'll gain by knowing you helped countless people by helping them find that special part for their project. (Priceless!!) I think the choice is clear you need to help tho's in need and in turn you are also helping yourself! I would pick the top 3 projects and keep only the parts you need for them, then start selling stuff to tho's that need it, in 10 years your still going to have a collection but your making some money in the process, thats money your wife dosen't know you have too!!!

Re: When is enough, enough?
This will be my last post/view of this thread.
Toooooo much Deja vu... Flash backs... You have a gold mine, it reminds me of my grandparents collection of 348/409 parts and Corvettes. Personally, I couldn't cope selling some of those vehicles. |

Re: When is enough, enough?
That's part of the problem, none of what i have in NC is drivable except for the daily drivers, 99 burb, 05 Aveo and the army blazer. The stuff in MD hasn't been driven let alone seen since I moved here, 10 years. They are buried in the back of a climate controlled warehouse rented by an auction company to store high end antiques and paintings.

Re: When is enough, enough?
The old saying is "you can't take it with you" so if I were you, and you physically can, I would start selling the parts and trucks. You could have lots of fun meeting folks in the hobby, maybe take some trips to the larger swap meets like Charlotte and Carlisle? The problem with collecting all the trucks and parts is that often ,when the person is gone, the surviving family members just scrap the stuff as it takes knowledge, time, and effort to sell the stuff. I have a good friend who collects 65 and 67 Impalas and parts. He has tons. He does go to the swap meets and sells some but more often than not, he brings home more than he left with. He has told me several times that when he goes I have to make sure that his kids do the right thing with the treasure. This is a good forum, as you well know, to get started.
PS - your post and photos are truck porn and my drool is wreaking my laptop.
