Glovebox leak

My '70 normally sits on an uphill angle in my driveway, but when I park on the street or a level parking lot, my glovebox fills with water during moderate to heavy rain. It seems to trickle in on the far right hand side. The windshield seal looks to be good. Before I start tearing things apart, where is the most likely source for the leak ?

There could be a little hole in the cowl. Mine does that too...Took my cowl off and found little pinholes from rain sitting in there over the years it rusted through. It sux! One of next summers many projects...

if the sealant in the raingutters is dried out and cracked and shrunk rain can leak down inside the roof and down the door pillars

This is what i suggest, and bear with me, this is gonna be a little long winded of an explanation. there is a seam in the inner cowl right above and behind the glove box. to access this seam you will need to remove the cowl panel. its not a real big deal. there are 2 bolts under the hood and 2 bolts in the upper door jamb area. also about 8 or 10 phillips head screws holding the cowl on. also you will have 2 remove the wiper arms. once you get the cowl off look down in the opening on that side of the inner cowl. you will see a seam that is sealed with old seam sealer. remove as much of the old seam sealer as you can , and reseal. also if you look in the rain gutter on the back of the firewall ( the area where the engine wiring goes up to the top of the firewall.) you will see a seam that runs the whole width of the cab. if you will check for cracks in the sealer and rust holes and seal it up, you will most likely have solved the problem. those 2 seams usually are the culprit of leaks into the glove box. there are other seams that can cause leaks into the cab as well as the windshield itself but these are the most prevalet on glove box leaks.

I have also had the dredded glove box lake. it allways depended on if i parked facing in or backing into the driveway, facing in would make the lake in the box. this is probably the root cause of my floor rotting.

So far i have resealed the drip rail and also because i beleve my Windshield to have a bad seal, water on the dash, i tryed a bit of silicone around the seal in the upper surface areas of the bottom corner as a temp fix.

I have yet to try to reseal the seam Under the cowl but plan to.. But in the mean time i keep the rat under a car cover.

I can tell you how it is getting into the glove box. There is a seam on the right side of the glove box liner and the overlap where it is put together is situated so that any water that drips on top of the liner and runs down the side runs right into the glove box...(whew, that was a long one) I put some sealer along that seam so the glove box won't fill up until I can fix the leak permanently.

I had the same problem, all of the above is correct. As an added measure, I sprayed the glove box with rattle can bedliner.

But, if it still leaks then the water is passing thru the carpet to the floorboard.. but at least the registration and other stuff is safe huh??

You got it! I don't have carpet so I don't have to worry about that and any water that leaks on the floor will just run out the rust holes. Bottom line is the stuff in the glove box don't get wet any more.

I had a rubber mat and the water would creep under it and the moisture would be trapped there, it was amazing how much damage happened in 10 years.. from then on its allways under cover yet still waiting for rust repair.

I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend...
