Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
Welcome to the site- originally from Perrysville in Ashland County- so from right down the road from you...
Question- do you want to keep the ignition switch on the dash or does it matter if it is on the column? - on the column can be done a whole lot cheaper. There is some good info here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=133937 |

If I remember right- full size vans up until the late 80's still had the key on the dash. Van tilts go for about $100-125 at swap meets down here. Check the PullaParts- closest is probably Canton to you. Here is links to swap meets in Ohio http://www.oldride.com/events/ohio.html http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/...066#Post591066 |

DPOWERS thanks for all the input, ya the good ole liveries in loudenville i have worked 3 summers there it never ceases to amaze me about the people, on a similar thread, a guy was saying a 77 nova column would be a direct fit, with no collasping involved, and input or thoughts on this ??

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
A column from a full size van will be the best fit, and doesn't have the ignition switch on the column. Motorhomes have the same column. Otherwise most any column up thru 1987 will fit with a little work.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
Even if you install a column that has a switch (and these are much easier to find) you can still keep on using the stock switch in the dash. Just remove the locking mechanism so you won't need to have the key in the column when you are driving.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
I agree with raycow
I used a column from a Nova which had the key , So I just ground off the key casting till smooth , Turned a piece of aluminum to press in the hole and roll pinned in place . Used some JB weld and high build primer. You cannot tell there was ever a key there. remove the lock mechanism

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
I used a 77 nova column But it was definitely not a drop in deal. I spent many hours fabricating and trial and error fitting. Plus the time shaving off the key and removing the locking mechanism.
I ended up using a intermediate shaft from a mid 70's 1/2 ton and drilling out the plastic rivets and collapsing it slightly. I used a Captain Fab bracket on the frame to modernize to a 71-72 power steering gearbox.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
Good luck finding a tilt in those years. And if you do manage to find one, it will co$t big time.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
but will they fit? with little or no fab work? I really dont care about the tilt. I have found a 64 Impala with a auto non tilt, just wondering if it will fit.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
If you buy the Ididit make sure that you get the new version of the 60-66 . The newer version has mounting holes for the stock bracket and e brake set up. Part number is the same for old and new.. I just sent mine back and they are swapping it for free.

Re: 63 chevy Want steering tilt
I just bought another truck and it has a tilt column with a key on it bolted in. I would give it to you cheap if you are interested.
